“And making love on my desk?”

She nods her head. “The thing is, though, I don’t want people to know we’re seeing each other. I—I don’t want them to think I’m sleeping with you because of who you are, or because you’re rich, or because I’m looking to further my career.”

“I don’t particularly care what people think, but we can keep this a secret, if that’s what you want. As long as we don’t have any secrets from each other.”

“Of course not.”

“Okay. I’ll tell Drew to keep it to himself.” She leans in to me, resting her head against my chest and I stroke her hair. “Speaking of sleeping together… when we drive back to the city tonight, I was wondering how you’d feel about coming to my place?”

She pulls away, looking up at me. “I’d love to. But it’s a little impractical. I don’t have anything to wear for work tomorrow.”

“Okay. Why don’t we slide by your place first, so you can pick something up?”

She smiles, her eyes sparkling. “Do you know? I was thinking, only this morning, how much I was dreading trying to sleep without you when we get back to the city.”

“Well… you won’t have to, if you come stay with me.”

She leans forward again, but then pulls back sharply. “Wait… your apartment… that’s the place you shared with Sadie, where she…”

“No, it’s not, babe. I moved.”

“Because of what she did?”

“No. It had nothing to do with her. It didn’t even have anything to do with the holes she made in my damn ceiling.” Livia chuckles and I pull her closer. “I only moved into my current apartment about a year ago, not long after Dad died, and the thing with Sadie happened a couple of years before that. The two events aren’t even remotely connected… I promise.” She nods her head. “Please… please don’t feel threatened by her.”

“Okay.”

“And please say you’ll come back to my place tonight? You’re not the only one who’s been dreading sleeping alone.” I lean down and kiss her. “I’ve gotten kinda used to spending all my time with you.”

“Me too.”

“In that case, let’s keep on doing it.”

Chapter Ten

Livia

When I asked Hunter if we could keep our relationship a secret, I never thought it would be so difficult.

We’ve managed it… but I honestly don’t know how.

Keeping our hands to ourselves during the day is proving challenging. We’ve nearly been caught out several times… most notably on the day we heard the company had been awarded the contract by Ecstatic Sports. Hunter was understandably thrilled, and I was in his office when Preston called with the news. Once he’d put his phone down, Hunter jumped to his feet and lifted me into his arms, kissing me, like his life depended on it… only for Miles Hampton to walk into the room.

Fortunately, as he crossed the threshold, he was looking at a piece of paper he had in his hand, and Hunter and I were able to step apart before he glanced up. I don’t think he noticed anything, and if he did, he didn’t mention it, but handed the document to Hunter before leaving.

“We’re gonna have to be more careful,” I said, as Hunter pushed a stray hair behind my ear. I felt sure I was blushing, although he just smiled down at me.

“Okay… but for that to work, you’ll have to stop being so sexy.”

“I’m not sexy at all.”

He grabbed me, his hands on my waist, and pulled me close to him, his arousal pressing into me. “Oh, yes, you are.” His kiss was even harder, and as his hands wandered, I soon forgot where we were, my need for him overtaking my reason. “Still think you’re not sexy?” he said as we pulled away from each other.

“I still think this is madness.”

He shook his head. “No, it’s not. It’s love.”

I had to smile then, although I went back to my desk… partly out of fear that we’d be caught, and partly because I needed to calm down before we took things any further.
