I shudder, thinking about that, and how good I know it’ll feel. “I meant from the deli.”

“I know… but I still want you. You taste better than anything I’ve ever eaten in my life.”

He leans closer, his lips brushing against mine, the kiss becoming heated in moments. He pushes me back in my chair, and I part my legs as far as my skirt will allow, feeling Hunter’s hand dust against my thigh. I hear a groan, and suddenly come to my senses, even though I’m fairly sure the sound came from me.

“What are we doing?” I break the kiss, and he stands, smiling down at me.

“Kissing?”

“I know… but I thought we were being careful.”

“That was me being careful.” He leans over again. “I miss you, Livia.”

“We only made love this morning…”

“So? I need you again.”

Oh, God… “I need you, too.”

His eyes glint. “Tonight can’t get here soon enough.”

“It can’t?”

He shakes his head. “No… the moment we get to the house, I’m gonna take you upstairs and fuck you so damn hard.”

I suck in a sharp breath. “Oh…. please.”

He stands upright, gazing down at me. “I’d better go deal with some emails, or something… although how I’m gonna think straight, I don’t know.” He walks away as he’s talking, but when he gets to the door, he turns and winks at me, and I have to chuckle.

I wish we didn’t have to wait until tonight. I wish he could take me back to his apartment right this minute. A smile twitches at my lips, because although I might be used to it now, I can still remember how surprised I was when he first took me back there. We’d gone to my place to collect some clothes, exactly as we’d planned, and Hunter had stood in my tiny apartment while I made excuses for my untidiness and found what I needed. Then he drove me across town to a huge apartment block. He carried our bags from the car, and that’s when I got my first surprise, because when we got into the elevator, Hunter put a key into the control panel and then pressed the top button; the one marked with a ‘P’.

“The penthouse?” I don’t know why I said that in a whisper, but I did, and he smiled down at me, nodding his head. I felt even more embarrassed then, knowing where we’d just come from.

“Yes.” He smiled at me.

“And does everyone in the building need a key to use the elevator?”

“No. But that’s because I don’t have a front door. Visitors have to come in through the main entrance and use the intercom.”

I nodded my head, like this was completely normal, but as the elevator doors opened, my breath caught in my throat. Who needed front doors when they could step out into a lobby with marble floors and walls? There was a circular table in the center of the space, and opposite, a painting that appeared to be an original.

I stood still, trying to take it all in. “Are you okay?” Hunter asked, turning to face me.

I nodded my head. “Is that Newport harbor?” I said, looking at the picture, trying to distract myself from my surroundings.

“Yeah. There’s a guy down there who paints local seascapes and landscapes. I commissioned him to paint that one, and a few others.”

“To remind you of home?” I said, turning to look up at him.

He smiled. “Yeah. Exactly.” He tilted his head to his right, and I strolled past him, into the biggest living space I’d ever seen in my life. Immediately before me were four enormous couches, in a pale gray leather, set around a low table. Beyond them was a modern kitchen, with dark gray units and a black countertop, which was completely clear of clutter. It was separated from the living area by a breakfast bar, which had four chairs neatly tucked beneath it. I could just about make out a formal dining space on the other side of the kitchen, although it was in darkness at the time, so all I could see was the outline of the high-backed chairs. The wall to my left was made entirely of glass, looking out over the city, and to my right was a staircase.

“Y—You have two floors?”

He grinned. “Yeah. The bedrooms are upstairs.”

“How many bedrooms are there?”

“Three. Each one has its own bathroom, and there’s a separate bathroom over there.” He nodded to a door I hadn’t even noticed, beneath the staircase. We stepped further into the room and he dumped the bags at the end of the couch. “Do you want to see the best part?”
