She shudders in my arms, my cock hardening. “I need you, too.”

I lean back, staring into her eyes, seeing the fire within them, and I know we’re back… back where we belong. “God… I wanna fuck you, so damn hard.”

She gasps, her eyes widening, and I bend my head, crushing my lips to hers. We’ve kissed so many times before, in so many ways, but it’s never been like this. There’s a hunger in both of us that won’t be sated and we devour each other. Nothing exists, other than this moment… this wild, desperate moment, and she clings to me, her fingers twisting into my hair, her sighs meeting my groans. Time passes, the world moves on, but we’re caught… together, until she pulls back, breathless, her lips a little swollen and her eyes alight.

“You want more?” I whisper, and she nods her head, a smile touching at her lips, a blush creeping up her cheeks. I have to smile back. At least one thing is exactly the same as it was before. She’s still just as beguiling as ever. “We will… but I think we’d better go inside and see your parents, don’t you?”

I feel her body sag in my arms, and I want to laugh; her disappointment is so obvious.

“You’ll take me back with you tonight?”

I’m about to say ‘yes’, when I realize I need to be sure. “Where exactly would I be taking you?”

“To your apartment, of course. I’m only asking because you’ve driven backwards and forwards so many times today, I thought you might be too tired to make the journey again. But where else would I be talking about?”

“I don’t know, but I’m guessing you still have your own apartment in Boston?”

“I do. But I’d rather come back to your place, if that’s okay.”

“Of course it’s okay,” I say, bending my head to kiss her, although I keep it brief. “I just needed to check, that’s all. I’m not taking anything for granted, baby.”

She smiles, nestling against me, and although I’ll admit to being exhausted, I can’t wait to get her home…

“Shall we go in?” she says, after a moment or two, and I nod my head, letting her go, but keeping a firm grip on her hand.

We make our way into the house, and I close the door, letting Livia lead us through to the living room, where her parents are sitting beside each other, in separate chairs. Her mom stands, although her dad remains seated, and I recall Livia saying this morning, how he hates for people to see him struggling.

“Mom… Dad… this is Hunter,” Livia says. We’ve already met, but I don’t blame her for making formal introductions. It feels appropriate, somehow.

“It’s nice to meet you,” her mom says with a smile. “Please, call me Julianne, and my husband is Connor.”

I step forward, and as her father holds up his left hand, I switch, and shake with my left, too, before stepping back again, and putting my arm around Livia. She leans against me, like she wants to let her parents know she’s okay with me touching her… not that they seem unhappy. They’re both smiling.

“I want to apologize,” I say and they look up at me. Livia does, too, confusion etched on her brow.

“What for?” she asks, and I lean in and kiss the tip of her nose.

“Nothing to do with you, for once.” I turn back to her mom and dad, although I focus most on Julianne. “I want to apologize to you, on behalf of my family, for what my father did to you.”

Julianne shakes her head. “It’s ancient history now. Please don’t worry about it.”

I turn to Livia, smiling down at her. “I feel even worse now.”

“What about?”

“About all the things I said to you… about blaming you for what happened. Your family are so gracious, and when I think about…”

She reaches up, placing her fingertips gently over my lips, silencing me. “You weren’t to know, Hunter. You only knew the story your father gave you… just like I only knew what Mom and Dad told me.”

She’s right, but I think it might take me a while to forgive myself.

Julianne steps forward slightly. “I know you must be keen to get back to the city, and you’ve probably got a lot to do, but would you like to stay for something to eat?”

I assume she’s talking to me, but then realize she’s looking at Livia too. She’s worked out already that Livia’s coming home with me.

“We’d love to, Mom.” Livia looks up at me, and then steps out of my embrace and moves closer to her mom. “Are you gonna be okay if I go back with Hunter?”

Her mom rests her hand on Livia’s shoulder. “Of course we are, sweetheart.”
