I couldn’t wrap my head around what I was hearing. It was irrational, illogical. It was madness.

“They’re going to kill off the Omegas,” I rasped.

Andy’s silence was confirmation enough. “They want complete control, and fated bonds pose a threat to their rule. They fancy themselves gods, and with the help of dark magic, they can control everything. They’ll decide which family lines live and which ones die. We would all be at their mercy.”

Erza studied Andy. “How did you come across this information?”

Andy’s eyes flicked to Blythe before returning to us. “I worked with Brielle and Blythe’s father on the Council long before the girls were born. It was me he entrusted them to when the Council was closing in.”

Chapter 29

Brielle

The rusty door hinges squealed as my mates and I entered our room for the night. We stood in silence, happy to be near each other. The conversation with Andy had not gone as expected, but the information she had given us was invaluable.

However, it meant that I was merely a piece of the puzzle—so small in the grand scheme of things. My sister and I were nothing more than a means to an end, our existence brought about by the greed of others.

What would we do now that we knew the Council’s end goal? How could we stop them?

“Sweetling,” Valor said. “Come here.”

He sat on the edge of the bed, arms open wide. The need in his voice matched the ache in my chest, and I climbed onto his lap with a sigh.

I straddled him and pressed my heart to his, murmuring soft words of reassurance as his arms banded around me.

Fingers dug into my hair as Ezra dropped a kiss on my forehead. “You worried us for a moment there.”

Korren’s hands drifted down my back, and my spine elongated as I arched into their touch. At the bar, just before my world went dark, my last thought was of my mates.

They surrounded me, pushing reassurance and love through the bond. This was where I felt safest. They were my home.

“I’m sorry,” I started, only to be cut off by Korren’s finger on my lips.

“You have nothing to be sorry for. But this won’t happen again.” Korren’s gaze sharpened. “We refuse to fail you like we almost did today.”

I cupped his cheek, running my thumb over his rapidly healing bruises. Goddess, I would never forgive the shifters who hurt them.

“You didn’t fail me. You gave me something I never could have given myself. You brought me to my sister.”

“We almost lost you in the process,” Ezra growled. “What would have happened if the shifters intended to take you? We would have never forgiven ourselves for being so careless with your safety.”

My wolf huffed, but she was secretly pleased. We didn’t want our mates blaming themselves for things they had no control over, but we didn’t mind their devotion.

I frowned at Ezra. “You weren’t careless—you never are.” I pinned Korren and Valor with an equally pointed look. “It was a necessary evil. We never would have made it this far if you hadn’t let me go alone, so I don’t want to hear any more self-blame. Do you understand?”

Valor slid his hand to the back of my neck and kissed me. “I like it when you’re bossy.”

Ezra grabbed my chin. “Do you know how much you mean to us?”

I shook my head, desperate to hear the words.

Valor spun me around on his lap, pointing me toward my other mates.

“You are everything, Brielle,” Ezra said, his voice like silk. “The moment we found you in that tree, you became our world. Your pain, regret, joy, and triumph belong to us.”

Korren placed gentle kisses on my fingers, knuckles, and wrists. “And we are yours. You are our anchor, our center. Don’t ever doubt that. We love you.”

My body flushed with pleasure. The world fell away as I reached for Korren, determined to take everything he offered. He skimmed his tongue along the seam of my lips as Ezra gripped the hem of my shirt. Korren leaned back and let Ezra remove my top, and when it hit the floor, his mouth found mine with toe-curling desperation.
