“Babe, were you asleep?”

“Yeah, I took a nap.”

“Shit, I’m sorry to wake you, but we must meet with your lawyer. I found some stuff out, and the sooner we get this handled, the better.” The fact Abel had met with his PI and now wanted to meet with my lawyer didn’t make it sound very promising.

“Okay. I’ll ask Kailey or Ella if I can borrow their car.”

“No, please don’t. I already asked Evan, and he said he’d drive you. I’d come and get you, but it’d be faster if he brought you, and I don’t want you alone for one minute. I already called the office and told them you and I were on the way.”

Chuckling, I asked, “And they were okay with that?”

Abel laughed with me. “As soon as I mentioned how urgent it was and you’d for sure be there, then yes, it wasn’t a problem.”

“Okay. I’ll get dressed and meet you at the office.”

“Be careful. I’m sorry to have woken you. When we’re done here, we’ll pick up something and head home so you can get more rest.”

Abel’s sweetness after the degrading, repulsive interaction with Blake had me falling even more in love with him. People needed to witness this side of my man, and they’d understand why I loved him so much and why he had to be the only man for me.

“Sounds good, thank you.”

“See you soon, babe.” Abel hung up, and I got dressed and rushed downstairs to find Evan waiting.

“Your chariot awaits, my lady.” He bowed and swung his arm toward the door.

“Why thank you, kind sir.” I giggled and headed toward his SUV. For a billionaire and Malum Kings Academy student, one would’ve expected him to drive a Lotus, Ferrari, or something similar, but no. He had a basic SUV with all the fixings, but people wouldn’t notice it from the outside.

Evan dropped me off, and one glance at my man worried me because he had tense shoulders and murder in his eyes, but he softened the moment he looked at me and hugged me close. Abel and I were escorted into the conference room where I last met David, and I got comfortable. We were told he’d be a few minutes late because he had to finish a phone interview.

“No worries, I appreciate him taking the time.”

Glancing at Abel, I lifted a brow.

“What?”

“You appreciate him taking the time. Who are you, and what have you done with my boyfriend?”

Abel tugged my hair and smirked. “Cool it.”

Giggling, I leaned closer and kissed him. I wanted to keep kissing him every day of my life. The door opening had me stopping.

“Chan, Abel, sorry to keep you waiting.”

“Thank you for seeing us on such short notice.” Abel stood and shook David’s hand.

“Of course, it sounded extremely urgent. What’s going on?”

Abel sat and put his arm around my shoulders, and for once, I spoke first.

“I tried speaking to Blake about a settlement. I wanted to gauge his reaction to see if he’d be open to the thought, but he was so high there was no talking to him.” I gambled at the mention of it because Abel would be pissed, and one glance at him proved my point, but I didn’t want David to know I already knew Blake was dead. I had to follow this through until the end.

David didn’t look too pleased with me either because he didn’t want me talking about anything business-related with Blake or anything at all. He’d soon find out it wouldn’t be an issue.

“Chan, you’re to stay away from Blake completely. The reason I needed us to meet with David so fast is my PI finally figured out who’s been trying to kill you. He doesn’t have strong enough evidence to go to court, but he’s working to gather anything he can. Baby, it’s Blake. He’s the one trying to kill you. If we can get the proof, he’ll get taken away from the company, but better yet, he’ll be in prison.”

Stiffening in Abel’s hold, I sat, and David watched me closely as I looked over his shoulder and admired the view. I didn’t know how to play any of this, so I remained quiet, trying to hold back the tears.

“Baby, are you okay?” Abel asked.
