“Julian’s my mate,” she offered without revealing her name, who or what she was.

“We are looking for something. Of course I understand that information is valuable. I’m offering you something in return.” Julian hadn’t told Cassia or Greyson what he’d use to bargain with the demon.

“Hmm … so mysterious.” Thorn rubbed his hands together. “I do love the suspense. Tell me Alpha. What have you brought me?”

“You agree to an exchange?”

“I’m intrigued. It’s not every day a Prince of Wolves asks for my assistance. So I suppose I do. If I have the answer you seek, you will show me your gift.”

The muffled sound of fireworks reverberated in the room. Thorn had deliberately ensured their confidence.

“We have been told of a secret of Hell. Aroya. It is a vessel.”

A curious smile curled onto Thorn’s face. “Someone has been divulging secrets, I see. Hmm … are they still alive, I wonder? It’s of no matter to me, I’m sure.”

“Kellan. I’m afraid he escaped. However he may be missing a limb or two.” Sowing division like a master, Julian anticipated Thorn’s cooperation.

“That despicable fae deserves to crawl in the bowels of Hell. I must say, I’m happy to hear of his misfortune. An enemy of my enemy is my friend.”

“Business associate,” Julian corrected.

“I assume the little fae spilled this information to you?”

“You assume correctly.”

“We had an unfortunate parting of ways.” Thorn’s expression turned sour. “We had a terrible incident involving a dragon. As you are aware, my events bring me great joy and I won’t allow a flea like Kellan to disrespect me or my friends. He’s on borrowed time. I’d have killed him myself, but alas he’s a slippery snake.”

“We should give you a heads up that he’s working with demons. Cambions.”

“Half human, half demon … a bastardized species. Scaly skinned, winged creatures. Very dangerous.” Greyson folded his arms across his chest.

“He nearly killed Rafe’s wolf,” Julian divulged. “You’d be wise to take caution with Kellan.”

“And why would the lone Prince of Wolves care about a stray wolf?” Thorn asked.

“Because he’s mine. He’s pack.” Julian nodded at Rafe who remained stoic. “So if you happen to see Ilsbeth you may want to mention Kellan’s new friends.”

“These motherfuckers aren’t to be trifled with,” Greyson commented.

“Interesting. So Kellan is working with a Hell faction. No fae should be able to invoke demi-demons … let alone ones that take on ancients. Hmm.”

“Invoke away he did … if it weren’t for Cassia—” Rafe went silent and looked to Julian.

“My mate. She helped to defeat them. Kellan’s too dangerous to walk the earthly realm. He must be bound to Hell.”

“Ah, the lovely little chameleon. Tell me pet, how did you defeat him?”

Cassia looked to Julian for approval before answering.

Julian nodded. “It’s fine. Tell him.”

“I shifted to an African elephant. The cambion were simply too aggressive, poisonous.”

“Ha! I love it! Slimy asshole, that Kellan. He’s bested by the Alpha, an ancient and a chameleon. This will teach him not to mess with you.” Thorn smiled at Julian. “Your mate, here. She’s quite clever. And beautiful.”

“She is.” His wolf released a slow protective growl. Julian gritted his teeth, his smile not reaching his eyes.

“I have a feeling this all has to do with the vessel. Your powers, beautiful. Do indulge me.”
