He just grins wider.

Next to me, Rico groans and rubs his temples in exasperation.

While he launches into another lecture about why we shouldn’t mess with each other in public right now, I slide my gaze back to Alina. She has reached the table now. I watch intently as she sets her tray down next to Konstantin’s and pulls out the chair.

Then she pauses.

For a second, she looks down at that chair in dread. Anton says something from her right, and she quickly wipes the expression from her face and sits down.

A sadistic smile spreads across my mouth as she winces when her ass touches the chair, betraying that she’s still sore from when I caned her last night.

Anticipation rushes through me.

I had planned to let her cool off for a few days before I went back to tormenting her, but how can I when she looks like that?

Besides, I still need to figure out what that strange flicker in my chest was. And the only way I can do that is by setting up another scene like that with Alina.

Jace snaps his fingers in front of my face. “Are you even listening?”

My hand shoots up, trying to grab his annoying fingers, but he manages to yank them back before I can.

“I need to go,” I announce, pushing my chair back and standing up.

Rico studies my face. “Why?”

“There’s something I need to take care of before afternoon classes start.”

Before either of them can ask anything else, I turn around and stalk away.

“Like I said.” Jace chuckles from back at the table. “Obsessed.”

I have half a mind to turn around and throw a couple of knives at him, but I manage to resist the temptation.

Besides, he’s wrong. I’m not obsessed with Alina. I can stop at any time.

I just don’t want to.

While most of the other students are still eating lunch, I head up to the instructors’ offices on the floor above. I have Alina’s schedule memorized, so I know exactly which class she has this afternoon.

Once I reach the correct office, I open the door and stride inside without knocking.

“Students who barge into my office without knocking will find themselves…” Mr. Brown begins in a sharp voice. Then he trails off when he realizes who I am. A small sigh of annoyance slips past his lips, and he gives me a tight smile. “Hunter. What can I do for you?”

Because our family is connected, both by money and by blood, to the Morelli family, most students at Blackwater University take great care not to cross us. Since the Morelli family is the biggest and most influential mafia family in this entire state, everyone dreams of landing a permanent contract with them, which is why they don’t want to risk pissing off the Morelli family’s closest allies.

However, the patriarch Federico Morelli himself has also informed the entire staff at Blackwater that Eli, Rico, Jace, and I are beyond reproach. Which is why the teachers let us do practically whatever we want. They might hate it, but no one disobeys a direct order from Federico Morelli, so they still do what everyone else does when they’re faced with our demands. They bow down and obey.

“Tell Alina Petrov that she needs to stay for a while after your class this afternoon,” I order.

Suspicion swirls in his eyes. “Why?”

I just stare him down in silence.

He blows out another irritated breath. “Fine. I’ll tell her to stay after class. I assume you want me to leave though?”

“Correct. And leave the supplies.”

It looks like he wants to protest, but in the end, he just jerks his chin down in a nod.
