I nod back as I walk past and continue towards the small private dining room that is located above the main restaurant area. Alina has stopped struggling on my shoulder, so I reach it without having to fight with her about it. Pushing the door open, I carry her inside and then set her down on one of the cushioned chairs by the small table for two that has been positioned by the wall. There is a larger round table here as well, but I don’t want to sit that far away from her.

She shoots me a glare that is entirely ruined by the messy state of her hair and the flush in her cheeks.

My cock hardens.

Fuck, she’s so hot when she’s flustered and disheveled.

It takes all of my considerable self-control to simply walk around the table and sit down opposite her instead of winding that long blonde hair around my fist and kissing the annoyance out of those wicked lips.

The chair scrapes against the wooden floorboards as I pull it out. It’s loud in the suddenly crackling silence. I drop down onto the chair while Alina runs her fingers through her hair to smoothen it down.

She glares at me for another few seconds before she glances around the room, taking in the rich green wallpaper and the beautiful paintings in their gilded frames that decorate the space.

“Where are we?” she asks, her gaze gliding over the polished tables made of dark wood and the dark green curtains that frame a window looking out over the main floor of the restaurant below.

“At an Italian restaurant that apparently serves incredible food,” I reply.

She arches a pale brow at me and echoes, “Apparently?”

I shrug. “I don’t really get the obsession with food. It’s just… food. But Jace loves this place. And I trust Jace.”

Surprise flickers in her eyes. And I catch myself just one second too late. God damn it, I hadn’t planned to share that.

However, before I can say anything else equally stupid, the door is pushed open and Joe walks in with a tray full of plates and a pitcher of water.

Alina immediately looks towards him and then breathes in deeply through her nose as the scent of food fills the air.

“Here we are,” Joe says as he sets down the pitcher of water on the table between us. “Water. Important to hydrate when you’re drunk.” He smiles. It’s one of those smiles that genuinely reach his eyes, making them glitter in the soft light. “And comfort food to heal the heart.”

I watch as he sets down several plates of different pasta dishes with lots of cheese and creamy sauces. And some chocolate cake too.

“Thanks,” I say once he’s done. “Just put it on our tab.”

“Will do.” He gives us a nod and another smile while lighting the candles on our table. Then he turns to leave. “Enjoy the food.”

Alina smiles back at him before he disappears out the door again. Once we’re alone, she looks down at the mass of food. She bites her bottom lip, looking a little uncertain.

“Eat,” I say.

That breaks the strange hesitation around her, and she raises her gaze to level a flat look at me. “You know, you could make it sound more like an offer and less like a command.”

A chuckle escapes my chest, and I flash her a wicked smile. “What would be the fun in that?”

She huffs and shoots me a pointed look, but she still picks up her knife and fork and pulls the closest pasta dish towards her. I reach towards the pitcher and fill her glass with water while she twists a truly impressive amount of pasta around her fork and brings it to her mouth. It so full that she has to open her mouth all the way to get it inside.

I grip the edge of the chair hard.

It should be fucking criminal to be that damn cute.

After finally getting all of that creamy pasta and cheese into her mouth, she starts chewing as she lowers her fork.

Light bursts behind her eyes. For second, she stops chewing and just stares at me with wide eyes. Then a moan rumbles from her throat and her eyes roll back in pleasure.

My heart does an absolutely ridiculous backflip in my chest.

“Oh my God,” she says around the mouthful of food. “This is so good!”

My chest suddenly aches, and I can’t manage a reply. But thankfully, Alina just swallows the food and then pulls another plate towards her. There is a bright smile on her face as she tries that dish as well.
