“I do.” I stop tracing circles on her skin and instead tighten my grip on her hip defensively. “Because they’re wrong.”

Light blooms in her eyes, and she opens her mouth as if to respond. But then hesitation blows across her features and she just closes it again.

Clearing her throat, she takes her hand from my chest and starts moving away.

The loss of her warm body against mine is like a gut punch.

“I should go,” she says, carefully climbing out of bed. “I need to get home before my brothers send out a search party.”

Let them, I almost growl. But I know that she’s right. We’ve already crossed a gigantic fucking line here tonight, so it’s better if she leaves before we can go any farther.

She quickly gathers up her clothes and starts getting dressed. I put on a pair of fresh underwear and the loose pants I wear to bed as well. I doubt I will be getting much sleep after this, but I can try.

Once she’s dressed, she walks over to where I placed her high heels by the door. But she doesn’t put them on. She just bends down and picks them up in her hand. Then she blinks, as if she has just remembered something.

Her gaze sweeps across my room until she locates her purse, which is waiting for her on top of my dresser. With her shoes still in one hand, she slinks over to her purse and then awkwardly slings it over her shoulder with one hand. Then she moves back to the door.

There is a strange tension in the air now.

For a few seconds, we just stand there, watching each other in the crackling silence.

Her gray eyes search my face. It looks like she wants to ask me where this leaves us.

But thankfully, she doesn’t. Because I have no idea either.

So in the end, she just gives me a small smile and then slips out the door without a word. I watch her go, feeling both strangely empty and full of chaotic emotions at the same time.

My heart beats erratically in my chest and my mind churns as I stand there, staring at the now empty doorway.

I fucked a Petrov.

I said I wasn’t going to. I swore I wasn’t going to. But I did.

And I not only fucked her, I cuddled her afterwards too. And I told her things. Things about me.

What the fuck am I doing?

I have a plan. A good plan. A plan to ruin her and to finally break that damn family. I shouldn’t have crossed this line. Shouldn’t have brought her here. Shouldn’t have let her mess with my head like this.

Because now, I don’t know where we stand anymore. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do with her now. What I’m supposed to do with myself now.

The only thing I do know, without a shred of doubt, is this:

No other man will ever touch her.

ALINA

Even all the way through the phone, I can hear my father’s disappointment. I can hear it in the tight tone of his voice. I can hear it in the way he sighs. I can even hear it in the silence when he says nothing at all. Staring up into the white ceiling of my bedroom, I hold the phone to my ear and wait for him to finish lecturing me.

“So can you imagine my embarrassment when I had to hear from one of my business associates that he saw you at a nightclub,” he says.

If he only knew what else I had done that night. Going out drinking is nothing compared to the real crime I committed two days ago. If he ever found out that I fucked a Hunter, he would pull me out of Blackwater in a heartbeat and lock me up inside our family home back in the city.

“It was just a night out with the girls,” I protest.

“A night out with the girls? I thought you came to Blackwater to train. Not to go out partying.”
