It sends me flying forward.

Wood cracks as the gate crashes into the stone wall of the building on my right. I whip around, stumbling to regain my balance.

And come face to face with two men in ski masks.

“They’re here,” I breathe into the phone as I back away.

But my back hits the wall behind me after only a few steps. The masked men advance on me. My heart is slamming so hard against my ribs that I think I’ve broken something.

Fear and panic course through my body like bolts of electricity as the two men pull out zip ties, a gag, and a black hood.

“Don’t fight them,” Jace says into my ear, but this time I swear I can hear his voice crack a little. “Do whatever they say. And never take off the watch. I’m coming for you.”

JACE

I’m dressed for bloodshed and rushing down the stairs within a minute. I can barely hear anything over the roaring in my head as I lace up my boots while checking the tracking app on my phone.

I put a tracker in Kayla’s watch months ago, so that I could find her if she ever managed to sneak away. I had almost forgotten about it. Until today. Until someone took her. Until someone took my Kayla.

I’m going to fucking kill them all.

Shooting to my feet, I snatch up a bat from the umbrella stand before I sprint out the door and towards my car. There are already six bats in the trunk of my car, but I toss this one into the passenger seat as I throw myself into the driver’s seat and floor it.

Bats are good. But I need guns too.

I know that my brothers could hook me up with whatever I wanted. They would drop everything to come and help me with this. But it would take too long. And every second that Kayla spends at someone else’s mercy is another second that my heart is fucking shattering in my chest. I’m getting her back. And I’m getting her back right now.

The car skids across the asphalt as I swerve into the parking lot right outside Blackwater University’s nearest gun range. Leaving the car running, I shove the door open and dart towards the entrance.

Several people jump out of my way as I barrel through the door and into the gun range. The guy in charge of distributing the weapons jerks back and blinks at me in surprise as I stalk around the counter and shove him out of my way. Scanning the racks of weapons, I quickly locate what I need.

Snatching up a holster, I shove my arms through the straps and secure it around my chest. Then I start loading up on guns and ammo and silencers.

The guy, who is supposed to stop people from doing exactly this, stares at me from two steps away, his mouth working up and down but no sound coming out.

If I was anyone else, I would’ve been shot by now. But because of my family’s connection to the Morelli mafia family, and the direct order from Federico Morelli himself that we are all untouchable, no one at Blackwater ever dares to deny me anything.

“Y-you’re not supposed to,” the guy finally manages to press out. “You can’t?—”

I yank up a gun and aim it at his forehead. “I wasn’t asking.”

He jerks back and his hands fly up in surrender. Fear flickers in his eyes as he stares at me and swallows. In fact, fear pulses in everyone’s eyes when I spin around and stalk back through the indoor range.

Everyone in here is an assassin-in-training. So the fact that they all look like they’re about to shit themselves says something about what I must look like right now.

But I don’t care.

I don’t care if I look like an unhinged maniac who is about to go on the worst killing spree of the century.

They took my girl.

I’m going to paint this whole fucking town with blood.
