“Is the business doing okay?” his brother asked.

“Yes, the team is holding it together while I—”

“Drink and fuck?” Blake asked, his brow raised.

“Speaking of, how opposed are you to me asking Leilani out?”

He was over this conversation and knew it would change the topic.

“Ask her out or take her to Sailors and introduce her to a life of sin?” Blake asked.

“It can be both.” Jacob smirked and felt his body stir again at the idea.

“The answer is no.”

“I don’t know if you noticed, but earlier—” Jacob started, referring to her visceral reaction to him.

“I noticed. And I know you’ll eat her up and spit her right back out. Then I’d lose an amazing PA. Right now, I need my life to be stable. I have a new wife. We’re still dealing with the legal shit with Randall Scott,” Blake said, referring to Bella’s birth father, who’d stolen her family company. “And I’m going to be a dad. Find someone else to play with.”

Jacob popped the last piece of sushi into his mouth.

She wasn’t just some woman he’d noticed. He had plenty of those at the club. Or any event he attended. Or walking down the street.

Leilani was becoming a little bit of an obsession.

“Back to the topic at hand. Just ring Mom. Let her tell you her reasons why she did this. Listen to her. Walking out after she landed the bomb on all of us at our wedding lunch was a fair reaction, bro, but it’s been two weeks.”

Jacob stood, gathering the empty containers, and glanced outside the office.

“She has an hour,” Blake said.

Damn, was he that obvious?

“Then I’ll leave her a note.” Jacob laughed when Blake groaned. Then he tossed their rubbish into the trash and grabbed a soda out of the fridge. “Fine, I’ll ring Mom. But I’m not ready to face Ward yet.”

His brother nodded and slapped him on the shoulder as he rounded his desk and sat down in front of his computer. “One step at a time.”

“Good talk. Now, give me a pen and paper to scribe my love note to Leilani.”

“Jesus,” Blake moaned.

But he did, and five minutes later, Jacob walked out of the InkWell offices, grinning.
