The huge green monster nods at me. “Nice to finally meet you. My Rosetta speaks of you frequently, with love and admiration.”

Ro said he’s possessive, but the way he says my Rosetta seems worshipful. No red flags detected here, either.

I smile, aiming for one that’s normal-ish. Not that anything about this is normal. “It’s nice to meet you, too. I’ve heard a lot about you, all very good.”

Constantine chokes back a laugh while setting the drinks on the coffee table.

I bite the inside of my cheek because I know he’s thinking about the stuff I alluded to during our phone conversation—that Ro likes to tell me spicy stuff about Dak. Now that I know what the guy looks like, it casts those details in a whole new light. Because Dak is huge. Usually, I just listen and giggle when Ro tells her sex tales. Now I have logistical questions.

There’s not much space between me and the armrest, but Constantine takes it, rather than sit on the fully available other branch of the L-shaped couch. I scooch over, toward Ro and Dak, but Constantine’s hand on my hip halts additional movement.

One of Ro’s ginger eyebrows rises and a smile curves her lips. No mystical mind-meld bond required to know her thoughts. She thinks it’s a done deal. That I’m one good Minotaur dicking away from calling Fate’s Falls home forever.

She might be right.

Heat from Constantine’s body seeps into mine, increasing when he leans forward, his chest pressing tight to my back while reaching for a drink from the table.

I really want that good dicking. To hell with our mutual promise to behave.

His hand is so big, he easily holds the white can and a pilsner glass at the same time. “I wasn’t sure which way you wanted it.”

“In the can is good.”

Ro snickers openly. “You might have to work up to that.”

“Ro!” The heat of a thousand suns flares inside me.

Behind me, Constantine’s body shakes with amusement.

Even Dak is smiling. Sort of.

Just great. We’re all thinking about me getting fucked in the ass by my Minotaur mate.

My Minotaur mate. Not a Minotaur, not the Minotaur sitting next to me. My Minotaur mate. I just mentally claimed Constantine—as my mate.

How would that look in reality, once the euphoria wears off and the rest of the world creeps back in? Mom, Dad, this is my boyfriend, Constantine, my fated mate, who happens to be a Minotaur. When I think about saying those things…they don’t feel weird. Maybe the magic that safeguards this town really has affected my brainwaves.

The sound of the aluminum tab cracking open jolts me from my thoughts.

“Thank you,” I say, accepting the can from Constantine. I take a big mouthful, hoping it’ll cool me off and give the others space to start a new line of conversation. Beer isn’t my usual drink of choice, but this doesn’t taste like ordinary beer. There’s no bitterness at all. It’s light and creamy, with a distinct fruity tang. Yummy enough for me to take another big swallow immediately.

“Better slow down,” Ro teases. “Unless you’ve been boozing it up a lot since last time we drank together at my farewell night out? The Nat I know is a lightweight.”

“I’m just having one.” If it gives me a little buzz, that wouldn’t be the worst thing. I take another sip, then offer the can to her. “It’s one of Constantine’s new brews. So good. Honestly, the best beer I’ve ever tasted. Try it.”

“No thanks.”

“You’ll like it.” I squint when she shakes her head. “Worried about cooties from the outside world?” I tease. “I can put some in a glass for you.”

“No, I’m good with water.”

“You never drink water. You always say it’s a waste of your taste buds. This won’t be.” I’m bordering on asshole territory here, but something’s off. Ro’s not a lush, but she never shies away from a good time or new experiences. “Come on, try it.”

As I jiggle the can, Dak splays his hand over her abdomen. Holy shit. Ho. Lee. Shit.

I never get the chance to make Ro squirm; I’ve only ever been on the receiving end. This is going to be fun. I crank the drama dial high, pushing my bottom lip out in a pout. “I came all the way across the country for you, and you won’t even take a sip of this delicious beer I’m sure you’ll like? You have changed.” I fake a sniffle for extra effect.

“Oh shit, you figured it out, didn’t you?”
