"Hmm," I hum, "and why is that?"

"Can I please come inside, Zara?"

"Fine." I step back, and he walks in. His presence makes my apartment feel even smaller than it already is.

"It's so quiet. Are they sleeping?" He cocks his head to the side and looks at his watch. "Did you make them go to bed early or something?"

"No. Lila, my best friend, you might remember her from that first night. Well, she's taken them to the movies, so I can just relax this evening."

"She sounds like a good best friend."

"She is," I say. "She's really great."

"And their mom and dad?"

"Like I told you, their mom, my sister, is out of town because she's chasing a job lead." The words are lies coming out of my mouth, but I don't care what he thinks.

"And their dad?"

"He's a deadbeat." I shrug. "So, why are you here, Jackson?"

"I kind of like it when you call me Zeus, by the way."

"Yeah, but I know your name is Jackson now," I say. "I mean, I know you thought I thought you were Jackson before, but I didn't have a clue. So, maybe you're not as famous as you think you are."

"I never said I thought I was famous. I?—"

"What do you want? My free time is ticking away very quickly, and I don't want to spend the rest of it just chatting with you."

"What do you want from life?" he asks abruptly. I try to ignore the way his eyes are roving over my body.

"What? If you expect me to say I want you, you're sadly mistaken."

"No, I would've been slightly taken aback if you said what you wanted from life was me. I mean, what do you want out of life?"

"I don't understand why you're asking me this question."

"Well, you came to my place of employment to take a job as an executive assistant."

"Yeah, and?"

"And then you took a dancing job at that club the other night."

"I need to make money. Okay?"

"But I'm sure neither of those jobs is your dream, right?" I’m not sure how he knows all this about me. Does he know my dream job? Is he some sort of mind reader as well as a Greek god?

"No, I wouldn't say being your executive assistant is a dream for anyone, and I didn't realize what that club was going to be so…" I pause. "Seedy is not the word I'm thinking of, but I don't quite know how to explain it."

"I get it," he says, nodding. "So, if you could be anything you want to be…?"

"I want to be a lawyer," I say. "I want to go to law school, practice big law, and help people with pro bono cases."

"Really? You want to be a lawyer?"

"What? You don't think I could be a lawyer?"

"No. I think you can be anything you want to be. I wasn’t sure what your answer would be; I just didn’t think a lawyer would be it." He looks at me. "So, what's stopping you?"
