My name echoes throughout the room, as I clamp down on her clit, letting her ride this wave as long as possible. Over and over she screams my name as I pump my fingers, sending her deeper into the abyss. I love seeing her like this. Letting go of her doubts, shedding her fears, knowing that I have her and I’m never letting go. No longer able to hold back, I surge forward, placing her legs over my shoulders, and drive deep inside her pussy. The sensation is overwhelming and as much as I wanted to make love to Lili, I fuck her, hard and deep, punching my hips as if my life depended on it.

Locking eyes with her, I see our future together, living a life filled with love and possibilities. My movements slow at the realization of just how deep our connection is, as a sense of peace washes over me .

“I love you so much, Lili,” I murmur, my heart swelling with emotion.

“I love you too, Nico,” she replies as tears spill down the side of her beautiful face.

Lowering down, I capture her mouth once more, sealing both of our fates as partners on this crazy journey. We will have the life we deserve because of this love and there’s nothing that Paolo or Carlo can do to keep us apart.

One week later

Having spent the previous weekend with Lili, I was under the impression that nothing could mar my week. Regrettably, I was mistaken. Carlo had been breathing down my neck, burdening me with more responsibilities than usual. His disdain for the Rinaldi family was no secret, but his agitation seemed particularly pronounced this week. Upon returning home on Monday morning, all hell broke loose. Before I could disclose the news myself, my father's Consigliere, Tomas, broke the news of my engagement to him.

The only plausible way he could’ve learned of it was through Salvatore, my brother, and a member of the organization, divulging it. He was there that night as one of our guards. I seldom use the word but I fucking hate that loser. Running to tell daddy about what his little brother is doing is a shitty thing to do and I don’t appreciate him sharing my private business. If Carlo wants a fight today, he’ll get one because I’m done!

“Why the fuck would you ask that bitch, Liliana to marry you,” Carlo roars from behind his desk.

“Who the fuck are you to dictate who I can and cannot marry?” I counter, sick of answering to him and justifying every decision I make.

“I’m the head of this family you little shit and you seem to have forgotten who you’re speaking to.”

“I know exactly who I’m talking to — a fucking punk who will never be the man that Paolo Rinaldi is,” I assert, knocking him down a few notches. His animosity stems from envy, and had he not spent so much time undermining Don Rinaldi, he might have attained the wealth he desires. Instead, he chased money and betrayed the five families more times than I can count. I’ve had it with this underhanded motherfucker and once Lili completes her remaining two years of graduate school, we’re leaving. It’s one of the topics we discussed privately last weekend. She’s tired of dealing with her father and not considering her feelings, forcing her into a life she has no desire to be a part of.

“We’ll see who the punk is after today,” he sneers, sending a chill down my spine for reasons I can’t quite put my finger on. He’s had numerous closed-door meetings this week, excluding me each time, leaving me clueless as to what he’s up to.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” I inquire, knowing more than likely, he’s doing something he has no business getting into.

“The only thing you need to worry about is being on time for the meeting with Don Moretti at the docks. If you fuck this up, your own mother won’t recognize you once I’m through with you. Is that clear?”

I’ve had enough of his threats, abuse, and disrespect. Leaning in, I slam my fists on the desk, meeting his gaze head-on.

“You don’t scare me, asshole, and if you come at me, you better be prepared to take me out before I end you!” I threaten, seething with fury.

“The only reason you’re still breathing is because it would break my wife’s heart, so be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it,” he retorts.

“After this meeting with Don Moretti, I’m done,” I declare, waiting for him to challenge me. If there were no men stationed outside the door, I would end him right now. I have a bullet with Carlo’s name on it and I won’t hesitate to use it if you so much as lays a finger on me again.

“Get the fuck out of my office and you’ll be finished when I say you’re finished!”

I never get the chance to respond, as Tomas enters the room, hand resting on his gun, signaling for me to leave. Heading up the stairs to my room, I quickly text Lili, letting her know what time I should be at the party. The festivities have already started and I know she may not respond right away. I simply want her to know that I’m thinking about her and can’t wait to see her. Unlocking the safe in my closet, I retrieve my back-up firearm along with extra ammo. While these meetings are typically peaceful, there are a few trigger-happy soldiers in the Moretti family and I need to be prepared for anything that jumps off. After fastening the weapon to my ankle holster, I lock my door and head to my car, eager to get away from this hell hole.

Once I’m on the freeway, it doesn’t take long for me to get to the docks. Glancing at my watch, I see that I’ve arrived a few minutes ahead of schedule. I conduct a brief perimeter check of the warehouse before settling in to await Don Moretti’s arrival. Lili hasn’t responded to my message but I’m not surprised. Her grandparents flew in from Venice yesterday and I’m sure her family is keeping her occupied. When an hour passes without any sign of the Moretti clan, I phone Carlo to let him know that I’m leaving and will have to reschedule our meeting. With traffic thickening in the late afternoon, it’s going to take even longer to get to Lili’s. The call goes straight to voicemail, intensifying my frustration. It's as if Carlo intentionally disrupted my plans to spend Lili's birthday celebration with her, almost deliberately. Securing the warehouse, I dial Moretti’s number as I make my way back to my car.

“Nico! What can I do for you?” He greets, catching me off guard. I anticipated an apology for not being here on time but it sounds like he wasn’t expecting a call from me.

“Just checking to see if you’re almost here for our meeting at the dock?” I respond, frustration seeping into my voice. “I’ve been here for over an hour and wanted to check in with you before I left.” Despite being a Don’s son, I understand the importance of respecting a Boss, regardless of the circumstances.

“The only meeting I had was with your father last week. Did that son-of-a-bitch schedule another without informing me?” He questions, clearly irritated that my father may be up to his tricks again.

“That doesn’t make any sense,” I reply, confused, thinking maybe I misheard the day and time. I recall Carlo mentioned it this morning in his office, even threatening me if I screwed this up.

“Apologies, kid. Carlo changed the date a couple of weeks back….again, but I accommodated him due to the shipment arriving earlier than expected.”

With a growing sense of trepidation, I end the call, determined to confront Carlo about the situation. Attempting to reach him once more, my call goes straight to voicemail, heightening my feelings that something isn’t right. A surge of anxiety twists in my gut as an overwhelming need to reach Lili consumes me. Shifting the car into gear, I opt to call her instead of texting, needing to hear her voice and make sure she’s okay. However, the phone rings and rings until it goes to voicemail, signaling that something isn't right.
