“Just having a chat,” Doc said. “I didn’t know you were coming today.”
“I called Logan’s mom and she said to come on over,” Brooklyn said.
“We brought vegetarian lasagna,” Slash said. “For Smoke’s bland diet.”
“Your hotel room has a fridge and microwave, right?” Brooklyn asked. “I just assumed.”
“It does.”
“Can I hug you or will that break you?” Brooklyn asked.
“I won’t break,” I assured her.
Brooklyn hugged me gently and then Slash gave me a one-armed hug.
“How’s Smoke?” Slash asked as we all headed back in the direction of my room.
“In surprisingly good spirits,” I said. “I wonder how long that’ll last though, being cooped up in bed.”
“That won’t bother him nearly as much as not being able to ride for a while,” Slash said.
Brooklyn and I lagged behind, both our speed naturally slower since she was heavily pregnant.
“How’s Jazz?” I asked her.
“She’s okay. Walking in on that mess really screwed with her head. But she’s glad she was there.”
“What was she doing at the bakery?” I asked.
“She left her wallet in the office.”
“Good fortune, then.”
Doc knocked on the hotel door and a moment later, Boxer opened it. “Changing of the guard?” he asked.
“Something like that,” Slash said.
“Brooklyn made a casserole?” Boxer asked as he filched the dish from Slash and lifted the aluminum foil. “No way. Lasagna? What do I have to do to get a lasagna?”
“Get stabbed,” Smoke drawled.
The bikers laughed but Doc, Brooklyn and I didn’t.
“Too soon for stabby jokes,” Boxer said. “Got it.”
“Logan, sit,” Doc commanded.
Smoke patted the side of the bed and I went to him. I got comfortable, the both of us propped up against the pillows.
“They’re cute together, aren’t they?” Boxer said to Slash.
“Very cute,” Slash agreed.
“Aww shucks, you guys are making me blush,” Smoke ribbed.
The connecting door to our room opened and my parents joined the party. I didn’t even bother trying to get up out of bed.
What was my father going to say when he found out Smoke had all but proposed to me?
