Time to face it head on.

I dialed Chase.

“Rug Rat,” Chase said in greeting.

“Can you not call me that?” I demanded.

“Okay. How are you, LoLo?”

I could hear the smile in his voice and my annoyance vanished. “I’m okay.”

“Okay? Really?”

I thought about it for a second. My eyes drifted across the lot to Smoke. He was holding the door to the gas station open for a little old lady.

“Logan?”

“Sorry, yeah. I’m here. I’m okay, Chase.”

“The family is going nuts, you get that, right? Dad’s looking at plane tickets to Vegas.”

“Are you with them?”

“I’m with all of them. Mom’s in the kitchen punching the hell out of the bread dough.”

“Put me on speaker.” I sighed. “Hello?”

“What’s going on?” my dad groused. “I got a call from the wedding hall not half an hour ago.”

“Yeah, Chase told me.”

“This is the part where you explain,” Grady, my eldest brother, commanded.

“Don’t take that tone with me,” I snapped. “It doesn’t work on me.”

“Honey, are you all right?” Mom asked.

“I’m fine,” I assured her. “Look, the short of it is this: I ended things with Knox. I gave him back his ring.”

“We got that much. The question is why did you end things with Knox?” Killian asked. My second oldest brother was not the type to let something go.

“Because he’s a lying, cheating bastard,” I replied.

Silence reigned on the other end of the line.

“I’ll book six tickets to Vegas,” my dad said. “We’ll help you pack your things and get you moved back home.”

“I’ll go round for round with that fucker,” Harlan said. “Been waiting for a reason to crack his skull.”

Harlan was my youngest brother. He was still six years older than me and was the hothead of the bunch. Always wanting to fight, and able to back it up, too.

“There’s no need to come to Vegas,” I said.

“Where’s my wallet?” my dad asked.

“Laundry room,” Mom replied. “I almost washed it.”

“Where are we going to stay?” Grady asked.
