“Well, my shift is over and I was wondering if you were ready to go look at the apartment.”

I clam shelled my laptop and tossed it aside. “I’m ready.”

“Cool. Let me tell Dad we’re ready to go. He’ll follow us in the truck with a few prospects. With their help we’ll have all the big stuff settled by tonight. We can crash at our new place and start the next chapter of our lives.”

“That sounds incredible.”

I quickly packed up my toiletries bag and threw it into the suitcase.

I was wrestling my luggage down the stairs as Bones was coming up.

“Need help, sweetheart?” he asked.

“Please,” I begged.

Chuckling, he grabbed both suitcases with his muscly arms and carted them down for me.

“Thanks,” I said when we got to the first floor.

“No sweat.” He winked. “So, you’re new in town.”

“Yep.”

“I’d love to show you around on the back of my bike,” he said.

“Oh—”

“Bones!”

I jumped at the bite in Smoke’s voice. I hadn’t even realized he was in the living room. His glare was directed at me.

What did I do?

“Hey, brother,” Bones said with a grin. “Just helping Logan with her baggage.”

“She’s got enough baggage,” Smoke clipped. “She doesn’t need you adding to it.”

“Whatever you say.” Bones took my suitcases and walked past Smoke out of the clubhouse.

“What the hell is going on with you and Bones?” Smoke demanded.

My brow furrowed. It was on the tip of my tongue to say nothing, but I didn’t actually owe Smoke an explanation.

So I threw my hair over my shoulder and said, “None of your business.”

I attempted to march past him but he clasped my wrist with his muscular hand. It wasn’t hard; just enough to get me to stop moving. “He’s not a good guy.”

I raised my brows. “He’s your club brother.”

“Yeah, how do you think I know? Don’t get involved with him.”

“I thought the club was done with the bad stuff.”

“It is. Still doesn’t mean he’s a good guy.”

He released me before I could tell him to let me go.

Smoke turned and marched out of the clubhouse. I followed at a slower pace.
