My nipples hardened.

Smoke handed me a helmet and I set it on my head. I clipped the buckle and made sure it was tight.

And then I climbed on the back of Smoke’s motorcycle.

I pressed my front to his back and wrapped my arms around him.

It took all of my willpower not to rub my cheek against his leather vest and purr like a kitten.

“Hang on, cupcake.” The engine growled to life and before I knew it, we were zooming through the gates of the clubhouse.

My fingernails dug into Smoke’s belly as adrenaline coursed through me.

Fear and excitement warred in equal measure.

I took a deep breath and felt it all the way to my stomach. When I exhaled, I released something. Something I’d been carrying with me for a long time.

Smoke pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant and cut the engine. I got off the bike with a bright smile on my face.

“Thank you,” I said, unlatching the helmet. “That was…I can’t even begin to…I needed that.”

Smoke took the helmet, our eyes meeting. Something moved between us and the planes of his face relaxed.

My gaze dipped to his mouth.

“How’d you like the ride, sweetheart?” Bones asked from behind Smoke.

Smoke turned and scowled at him but said nothing.

I faced Bones. “It was incredible.”

Bones wrapped a friendly arm around my shoulder and pulled me into his muscular side and all but dragged me toward the restaurant, away from Smoke. “Thanks.”

“For what?” I demanded.

“Wearing tight jeans.”

I elbowed him hard enough to make him grunt and he let me go.

“Man’s got a death wish,” Raze said to Kelp.

“Right?” Kelp said with a laugh.

The restaurant was fairly empty and the air conditioning was earning its keep. I wished I’d thought to bring a sweater. Goosebumps scuttled up and down my arms.

A female bartender pulling pints called out, “Anywhere’s fine.”

“Lady’s choice,” Bones said.

I headed toward the booth against the far window, the men all trailing behind me. I slid into the booth and Bones took the seat next to me. Kelp and Raze sat on the opposite side, and Smoke pulled up a chair at the end of the table, shooting Bones another glare.

The cute bartender approached our table with a wide smile. “Hey. What can I get everyone to drink?”

We put in our orders.

“You know what you want to eat?” she asked.

Bones looked at me. “You like spicy?”
