Hopefully this apartment would be the one.

The gates to the clubhouse opened and I drove through. Several cars were already there, parked on one side while the bikers were parked on the other. I didn’t see Tavy’s vehicle and I knew she wouldn’t get off work until later that afternoon.

I cut the engine and climbed out of the car, my spirits low.

A few younger bikers were hanging out on the porch, laughing, drinking bottles of soda.

“Hey, Logan!” Savage called.

“Hey,” I greeted.

“You don’t sound happy,” he said.

“I saw an apartment today. Actually, that’s a lie. I saw the neighborhood and then refused to even look at the apartment,” I said.

“Damn,” Savage said. He wrapped his arm around me and gave me a friendly hug. “Well, there’s nothing like a bottle of moonshine and a few hotdogs to cheer you up.”

“Moonshine?” I inquired.

“You’ve got to taste Boxer’s moonshine,” Savage said. “Just don’t drink too much.”

“Yeah, you wouldn’t want to wake up in the backyard of the clubhouse snuggling a raccoon.” A biker with dark hair grinned, his cheek dimples popping.

“Dude, that only happened once,” Savage quipped. “Logan, this is Duke. He was once my best friend.”

“You’d be dead without me,” Duke said to Savage.

“That’s the fucking truth,” another biker piped up. “I’m Acid.”

The door to the front porch opened and a tall blonde who looked about my age popped her head out. “You guys coming in?”

“Yeah.” Duke walked over to the woman and dragged her into his arms. “Come meet Logan.”

“Logan. Oh! Tavy’s friend,” the woman said with a bright smile at me. “I’ve heard a lot about you.”

“Already? My reputation precedes me?” I joked.

“I met Tavy briefly a few days ago when I came to the clubhouse,” the woman explained. “She mentioned her best friend was moving to town. I’m Willa, by the way.”

“Nice to meet you.”

The group of us headed into the clubhouse. Two dogs were running through the living room. Kids were yelling and chasing after them.

“Silas!” a petite brunette called from behind the kitchen counter.

A gangly teenager with a mop of dark hair looked at her. “Yeah?”

“Take this platter of patties outside and then get your sister from her playpen,” the woman commanded with the authority of a drill sergeant.

“I’ll take the patties,” Acid offered.

“Thanks,” the woman replied. “Silas?”

“Yeah, I’ll get Scarlett,” Silas said as he turned and headed down the hallway.
