“Pull up a chair, so we can go over the assignments you missed.” I point to the chair closest to us. He drags it over with his good arm and spins it around, straddling it and resting his arm on the back of it.

“Okay, Miss Turner. What did I miss?” He tilts his head to the right and smiles.

“In a minute.” I turn the laptop to the right and fold my hands together on my desk. “J, tell me how you are. Really.”

“I’m getting better. Stronger every day. Mom is a great nurse.” He smiles wide.

“What happened? You weren’t upset over anything, were you?” I ask, and close my eyes.

“I wanted to drive to the beach to unwind after my shift at The Oasis. I needed to relax and listen to the ocean waves. They calm me down. I gunned my car to beat a yellow light and the other car jumped the green light. Guess they were in a hurry, too.” He shrugs, then winces.

I stand and come around from behind my desk. Touching his arm that’s in a cast, I caress him gently.

“How long will you be in that?” I point to his cast as I hop onto my desk, keeping some space between us.

“Another month. Then I’ll have to go to physical therapy.” He tilts his head upward, then trails his eyes from my breasts to my toes and back. Heat pricks up and down my spine, then finds my clit, making me quiver.

“Are you back working? Can you even work at all?”

“Yeah. Dave’s been great. He lets me do what I can. They have a wheeled cart I use to bus tables instead of having to carry the bins and trays.” He sighs.

“But…” I lead him to continue.

“But I can’t help in the kitchen right now.” His head falls to his chest as he sighs.

Reaching, I place my hand on his scruffy chin and lift his head up to me.

“You’re lucky, Jaden. The accident could’ve been so much worse.” My heart fills with a familiar warmth being alone with him and triples its beat. I quickly move my hand back to my lap and say, “I’m glad you’re going to be okay.”

I move from sitting on my desk and walk around to the back. I check the list of assignments because I need to get us back to the reason I asked Jaden to remain after class, the real reason.

“The only dish we made while you were absent was a quiche. Each team made a different variation. Candace did very well on her own. Have you made one before?”

“Those are easy. Mom taught me how to make several versions of quiches.” He scoots the chair as close to the desk as he can.

“I can make one for you if you want me to stay after classes tonight.” He pushes his hand across the desk, bumping his fingers against mine.

My eyes drop to the desk, watching his hand as his fingers crawl onto mine. He slowly moves my fingers apart, then slides his hand underneath mine. He flips his hand so our palms touch.

I squeeze my legs together as his warm skin melds with mine. I should move my hand, but I don’t. I want to touch him like this. I want to touch all of him like this.

Maybe we could… No, maybe. But… what if we met after class for extra credit? Or out of town, away from everyone here? Maybe we could. Besides, I want Jaden to have it all.

JADEN

Fuck!

I don’t want to release her delicate hand, but I do when she pulls it back. She smiles, then closes her eyes, and shakes her head slowly.

“Blaire… I have big plans. I want you to be a part of them. I want?—”

“Jaden,” she interrupts me.

“You have another year of school. I’m your instructor. There are rules.” She sighs heavily and falls back against her chair.

“I know, but I still have to prepare for my future. I’m going to succeed. I promise you that. Owning my own restaurant is my dream. Having you share that with me will only make it that much better. Blaire, please…” I stand and walk behind her desk.
