His heart sank.

Empty.

This room was being used as a cold cellar. Jar after jar of jams and preserves all lined up in neat little rows on shelves, all waiting for consumption.

Fuck! Where was he?

“I don’t know what sort of drugs you’re on, but you better leave now before the police arrive. They are already on their way!” Peabody shouted.

Chase snapped his head around one last time.

He had to leave now before the cops arrived and charged him for forced entry, probably assault and breaking and entering, to name just a few felonies he had just committed.

“This isn’t over, old man!” Chase threatened as he ran up the stairs and out the back door. He could already hear the sirens coming.

Fuck, he hated this feeling.

He sped off, heading straight to the mansion. Matteo would want an in-person update. He was already furious at Levi for going home with the guy and would now be worried as sin when he found out that Levi couldn’t be located.

“So, where is he?” Matteo asked in a panic when he saw Chase approaching the front door alone.

The man looked disheveled, tie pulled loose, hair out of place. Nothing like the neatly kept man he had been introduced to over the past few days.

“Don’t know. I couldn’t find him,” Chase huffed.

A group of men, guests for the night, stood off to the side, watching them.

“Let’s take this to my office,” Matteo said, grabbing Chase by the arm and pulling him down the hallway.

Chase was still in a daze. How could he have lost Levi? The boy was pure sunshine. Would he ever get to see that beautiful smiling face again?

“Hey! Snap out of it,” Matteo shouted at Chase. “I need you clear-headed and focused.” Matteo pressed a button on his desk phone. “Send them in,” he said to the male voice on the other end of the speaker.

A moment later, the office door burst open, and in rushed Isaac, followed by Jared, Marc and Alex.

Isaac moved toward Chase.

“Is it true? Has Levi been taken?” Isaac asked, his eyes wide with worry.

Chase watched as the snake tattoo on Isaac’s neck seemed to pulsate as he talked to him. He had never noticed how big the tattoo was before. It ran just below his ear and down across his back.

“That’s what I’m trying to figure out,” Chase growled. He couldn’t deal with a neurotic skater boy on top of everything else he was trying to process.

Sensing Chase’s frustration, Jared grabbed Isaac by the shoulders and pulled him down into his lap. They sat a few feet away from the desk, next to a large stone fireplace.

Marc and Alex took a seat on the loveseat across from Jared and Isaac while Matteo motioned for Chase to join them in the sitting area of his office.

“Okay, let’s review the facts,” Marc said, standing up and beginning to pace back and forth.

Alex took out his iPad and began taking notes.

“Earlier this evening, Jared said he spoke with Levi, who asked him to let Matteo know that he was going home with Peabody.”

“Correct,” Jared confirmed.

“Did you see them leave together?” Marc asked.

“No. I went to work the room after I spoke with Levi.”
