“Nope. Which is why I brought him breakfast this morning. It’s working though. We both have to work this weekend. I won’t see him and might not even talk to him much. Once I’m in the kitchen tonight and this weekend, I’ve got no time to even check my phone.”

“I’m sure he understands that since he’s not exactly texting and chatting while he’s flying.”

“That’s right. I don’t like clingy guys so this works even better.”

“You don’t think you came off as clingy this morning?” Emma asked, lifting her eyebrow.

She waited for a beat before she answered. “No. That was a push. He made the next step and now we won’t do much more than text for a few days and figure out our plans.”

“Good for you,” Emma said. “I asked that to see if you’d doubt yourself. You rarely doubt yourself in anything and I’m glad to know you aren’t now.”

Guess she did a good job hiding that bad trait from everyone but her mother.

“No,” she said. “I’m not doubting myself as much as just trying to navigate this. I don’t want to be the person putting in all the effort either.”

She’d given herself some timelines and a pep talk for the past few days.

There was only so much fighting for someone she’d do to just get to know them. She wasn’t going to beg anyone.

“The fact he texted you to get together less than thirty minutes after you left him should give you your answer.”

She smiled. “I guess you’re right. Points for me.”

“I’m glad to know one of us is getting some action,” Emma said.

“I’m not getting much and you won’t ever unless you leave your house.”

“I’m good,” Emma said.

“Then why make that comment?” she asked.

“No clue,” Emma said, shrugging.

But Grace didn’t believe that.

It wasn’t the time to argue though. They were all adults and made their own choices in life.

Pursuing Lincoln was hers and she just hoped it didn’t bite her in the ass.

WATCH AND LEARN

Lincoln felt like a fool standing on the doorstep of Grace’s house on Monday afternoon.

Not even noon. It was a few minutes before.

He’d flown Rex and Hailey to Boston first thing this morning, then had a few hours to kill before Egan could bring him back to the island.

He could have gotten on the ferry and then taken an Uber back to the hangar, but the time to wait for the next ferry and the ride over, then an Uber… It might have saved him forty minutes today.

It wasn’t worth the hassle and gave him time to take Egan’s Range Rover and pick up a few things in Boston.

One of those things was a gift for Grace.

“Hi,” Grace said, opening the door.

“I’m not too early, am I?” he asked. He got sick of waiting around his house.
