“Maybe it does the same for me to help out,” he said.

“If that is the case then I’ll take it. But for no other reason. We both know I can call someone up and hire them to do these things.”

“And wait months for it to get done,” he pointed out.

“How about I help do the stain,” she said. “I’d like to be able to put my stamp on it.”

He liked the sounds of that better. Like his parents used to do things together.

He knew he was getting way ahead of himself and had to pull back on the throttle.

“We can tackle that next week,” he said. “I’ll pick some up.”

She sighed. “I’ll order it,” she said. “And have it delivered. I’m going to look for pots to put on the shelves too.”

He nodded his head. No reason to argue with her.

He grabbed a fourth cookie and went back to the garage. Her timer went off anyway so she was turning her back to deal with that.

An hour later, the last shelf was in place on the wall inside and he stood back to look it over. The wall was ten feet in length as it was just a side wall that was bumped out from the kitchen. There were three shelves centered, eight feet in length starting from four feet, six feet and then eight feet. She had ten-foot ceilings so it was perfect.

She was standing back and looking at it finished. “I think I’m going to order a little table to put against it too. I could place plants on the table. This could be my greenery wall. I’m not sure why I never thought of it before.”

“It will look great,” he said. “It won’t take me long to get the shelves up outside the next time the weather is nice.”

“I’m going to have so many herbs I can’t wait.”

“As long as I get to taste some of them,” he said, smirking.

“Of course,” she said. “How about that beer now?”

“I’d love it,” he said, “but I want to return the saw since the rain stopped for the moment.”

“You’ll come back for dinner?” she asked.

“I will,” he said.

He gave her a quick kiss and left to bring the saw back.

When he returned about thirty minutes later, there was a beer poured waiting for him and she had a glass of wine in her hand.

“Come sit and relax now,” she said. “If you’re going to do any more work it’s going to be in my bedroom.”

He laughed. “Gladly.

“I’ll feed you first and then you can thank me there.”

He took the beer out of her hand and followed her to the living room and took a seat on the couch. She went to the end and turned to tuck her feet under her after kicking off her sandals. Birkenstock like Egan wore. He held the laugh in.

She was in navy leggings and a green and navy T-shirt. There wasn’t a speck of food on her for all the cooking she’d done for him today and she hadn’t been wearing an apron either.

“Are you always so clean when you cook or bake?”

“Not usually,” she said. “At home I’m not as rushed as I am working. I know you and others have said I should take a day off, but cooking for pleasure in my kitchen at my leisure is like having a day off.”

He never thought of it that way. “Makes sense,” he said. “When I’m flying for work, we have a schedule to keep. I can push the speed when the weather is nice. When we are doing tours we don’t do that.”

“Hard to admire from above if you’re whizzing past it.”
