Her jaw dropped. “Why am I just hearing this now? What’s it about?”

“Because it’s not public knowledge,” Hunter said, smirking. “That’s why you aren’t being told.”

“Do I get to find out what the show is about?” she asked.

“Nope,” Hunter said. “Because I don’t know. It’s through Bravo and there are a few different ideas on the board. Just know that getting you and The Retreat out there will get more eyes on the island.”

“Which benefits everyone,” she said, sighing. “I get it. Guess I don’t have a choice in the matter.”

“Not really. Sorry about that. I know you’ll do great.”

“I’m going to crush it,” she said. “Just wish I had more time to prepare. Do they let me know anything in advance?”

“You’ll find out more. I’m going to call them back and then Hailey will reach out right after and get all the legal documents and go from there. You’ll be talking to her about it.”

Hailey handled all the Bond business.

“Hopefully I’ll have some answers by the end of the day.”

“It might not even be a full week,” Hunter said. “Depends on how long you last.”

“I’m going to last long,” she said, pretending shock over his comment. “Have some faith.”

“I’ve got all the faith in the world,” Hunter said. Hunter put his hands in his pockets. Her cousin always was dressed to show his name and title. “But don’t put that kind of pressure on yourself either. Maybe see if Lincoln can go with you. You won’t be filming the whole time. Mix it in with a vacation.” Hunter would understand the pressure part of the family too. His offer was kind, she had to admit.

“I highly doubt Lincoln can take a week off on short notice like that,” she said. Though she’d love nothing more if he could go too.

“Filming starts on Monday and goes through Friday. It’s not a full week since he gets a few days off,” Hunter said. “But that is between you two.”

“Yeah,” she said. “And Egan. He’s got a business to run too.”

“Lincoln on set with you in a Bond Charter shirt...more publicity,” Hunter said, laughing.

She threw her hands up. “I’m going to assume Mitchell is aware of this?”

“He is,” Hunter said.

“Which means it’s already been talked about in terms of Lincoln.”

She wasn’t sure how she felt about that. That maybe she and Lincoln were being manipulated for the island. For her, she got it. It was her family. But not Lincoln’s.

“I know what is going through your mind,” Hunter said. “It’s business, but it’s more. Why can’t it be combined together and family is giving you both a little nudge?”

“I didn’t know we needed a nudge,” she said with her hands on her hips. “I thought things were going just fine. What have you heard?”

“I haven’t heard anything to say otherwise,” Hunter said, putting his hands up now. It was the cool-down sign he gave her. “I’m following orders like you. Sometimes things happen beyond our control and we go with them. This is a good thing. An adventure. I’m giving you a heads up about Lincoln, that’s all.”

She narrowed her eyes. “Whose idea was it for him to go too?”

Hunter looked around as if he might be worried he would get caught telling secrets. “Grandpa’s. I think he might be concerned you’ll be stressed or lose your patience during this because of the stress.”

Her shoulders dropped. “And that won’t look good for The Retreat. Grandpa thinks having Lincoln with me will keep me in check?”

She felt herself getting worked up over their lack of faith in her and that she needed a babysitter.

“You have been known to be on the cool side in the kitchen. We don’t want negative publicity either. You’re also very competitive, and shows like this, they do try to create drama. Maybe Grandpa is looking to show another side...”

She wanted to grind her teeth. “Having me there with my boyfriend who happens to work for another family business and was in the Air Force. He has medals for his service. He’s good-looking. They will see the rich girl and the hero. The reverse Cinderella story?”
