I rolled my eyes and cast a glance around. I could easily escape through the club—no chance Alex would find me in the sea of dancing people.

I just needed to be quick.

The extremely charming bartender grabbed me by my waist and lifted me up onto the bar before I could even react.

“Hey.”

“Hey, Mario, you got a little ornament for your bar?” A guy sitting on the other side said, then pinched my side.

What the fuck?

I turned around and gave him my most murderous stare. “Hands off.”

The guy raised his hands, and the gorgeous middle-aged woman next to him chuckled.

“No, touching without permission, Floyd.”

She offered me her hand. “I’m Cherry, this is Floyd, and the one behind you is Mario.”

This was beyond surreal.

“Fiona,” I said and shook her hand as if this was a normal situation. As if I wasn’t sitting on the bar, at a nightclub.

“You got lost back there?” Cherry asked.

I nodded.

The barkeeper, Mario, handed me a drink. “On the house,” he said with a wink.

Floyd straightened. “Can I help you down, ma’am?”

I chuckled. From pinching me to calling me ma’am in under two minutes, that must be a record.

But hell, I needed to get down and out of here as soon as possible. “Thanks,” I said, put down the glass, swung my legs over, and let him help me down on the other side.

“Here on vacation?” Cherry asked and handed me back my drink.

It seemed like they wouldn’t let me go so easily.

“Yes.” I looked over my shoulder to the exit—thank God at least Alex wasn’t anywhere in sight—then turned back to Cherry and Floyd.

“I’m really sorry, but I have to go.” I put my glass down and turned. And right at that moment, I caught a glimpse of Alex across the room.

He shook hands with three guys in black suits, and together, they moved to a flight of stairs leading to a podium, right next to the bar.

Probably the VIP area.

Fuck.

I lowered my head and turned back to Cherry and Floyd.

“Changed your mind?” Floyd said, and Cherry laid her hand on my hip. “Are you okay? Are you hiding from someone? Is there something we can do?”

I stared at the woman, then at Floyd. Maybe the two of them were my best bet for getting out of here.

I cast a sideways glance.

There he was. Looking all mean and intimidating.
