"We take what is ours," Rex repeated with a tentative smile.

Rex thoroughly appreciated his brother and his sound wisdom. He'd never felt bad about his lifestyle until the moment Dorian entered their lives. Colby was right; everyone has a past, and he might have gotten around it, but that mindset ended with Dorian. No one would ever satisfy him except his adored. Together, he and Colby would win his trust and his love, just like every Fated bond before them.

They pulled up to the entrance of the Steinhaus building, and both Colby and Rex exited the vehicle and headed to the main doors. The minute they stepped inside and saw Dorian standing in the lobby watching them and waiting was the minute Rex forgot all his fears and frustrations and thought of only Dorian.

He looked just as gorgeous as he had earlier only his outfit was a touch more casual, but the look was purely handsome. Everything the man wore was perfect in Rex’s eyes. Dorian was dressed in an auburn knit top with an open collar and nicely fitted pants. Rex felt his mouth watering at the vision before him. The scent of moonflower surrounded him and he took a deep cleansing breath.

“Good evening, Dorian." Colby opened the dialogue and approached him with his hand extended. Dorian took his hand and shook it. "I'm Colby, and this is my brother Rex, and we are to accompany you to the quarters of Sloan Dobre and Paul Masters." Dorian looked from one to the other, obviously surprised that they were both there, but said nothing, just as Colby had predicted. Dorian took Rex's hand and shook it as well. Rex loved the feel of his flesh, which was warm and firm, and it was the perfect handshake.

Rex held onto Dorian’s hand longer than he should have but it was just too sweet to let go but eventually he did release him. “If you’re ready the car is waiting.” Rex said and Dorian nodded.

“Yes, let’s go.” Dorian said and fell into step with them. Rex positioned himself on one side of Dorian and Colby on the other and it felt natural as hell and brought a contented smile Rex’s face. The man smelled amazing Rex had never experienced such an aroma it continued to envelope him as they made their way to the doors.

It wasn’t long and they were seated in the back of the luxury car with Rex on the right and Colby on the left and Dorian in the middle. They didn’t crowd him but they both managed to achieve several casual touches throughout the drive. Having him so close and veritably alone was doing strange things to Rex’s body and mind. He could feel that Colby was having the same reaction.

“Why did Sloan send two bodyguards to collect me?” Dorian’s question was blunt and direct.

“We volunteered; we weren’t sent.” Rex offered.

"We understand that you have Paul's best interests at heart, and we respect that. You're a good friend, and Paul is lucky to have you looking out for him." Colby explained further. Dorian sat stiffly between them, and Rex wished he could get him to relax, but considering they had just met, that was probably not going to happen.

“Paul is a sweet man with a tendency to see the best in people that’s how he ended up in a relationship with Joshua. I hated that man, but Paul wouldn’t hear it constantly defending him and explaining away his actions every time he was heartless and cruel." Dorian was becoming animated, and both Rex and Colby felt the energy charge the air. They wanted to keep him talking keep him sharing, so they fed into the topic of Joshua.

“Joshua is a useless waste of space and so is his father.” Rex interjected. “Sloan backed them off when they tried coming after Paul. Joshua’s revenge tactics ended up costing daddy a lot of money.”

“That’s why Agincourt bought out Austin Fields?”

“They fired Paul and evicted him just for laughs.” Colby contributed to the discussion. “Sloan made them regret it.”

"He did that for Paul and no other reason?" Dorian sounded surprised, as he obviously had not heard the entire story.

"Yes, he loves Paul, and he'd do anything for him," Colby added with emphasis.

"Paul is his adored, and there isn't anything he wouldn't do for him." Rex used the word to gauge Dorian's reaction.

CHAPTER FOUR

Dorian had heard that word before, and it was important in vampire culture. He wasn't completely certain of its meaning, but it had to do with bonding of some sort, which was a coming together of a vampire and his favorite. There was much more to the meaning than that because the people back home refused to talk about it. It was considered almost sacred.

Dorian wanted to ask Rex to explain but doubted he'd give the accurate definition. He would have to explain vampirism first, and that wasn't going to happen. He was feeling disconcerted sitting between the two attractive men, and his thought processes were not as sharp as usual. Having them so close was playing havoc with his control.

Vampires were all rather handsome, but these two brothers were far beyond anything Dorian had seen in the past. They were twins but where not identical Rex had an earthy roughness about him that was sexy as hell and Colby had a dark sexiness about him that just made Dorian sweat with desire.

They were difficult to be around but also a pleasure to be near. Dorian chastised himself for his wanton thoughts and cravings, but this was not the time. He needed to keep his mind on the situation at hand.

"Paul is a nice guy, and he often gets taken advantage of, just as Joshua tried to do. Fortunately, Paul was too poor to satisfy Joshua's need for money and things, and he was able to escape the final shakedown. But even so, he was still pained over the loss of that relationship and grieved the man he thought Joshua to be." Dorian brought his attention back to Paul and Sloan. "Paul is his own man, and like with Joshua, he will make his own decisions. It would pain me to see him taken advantage of once again."

“Paul is in a good place, and he is very much loved. Sloan will love, honor and protect him till the end of his days. You need not fear for him Paul couldn’t be any safer than he is with Sloan.” Colby spelled it out slowly and clearly and although Dorian had his doubts in general, he had to admit that Colby’s words appeared sincere.

Rex made a move that startled Dorian, but he forced himself not to react. He reached over and placed his large, strong hand on top of Dorian's, and the sensation of peace and calm seemed to radiate from it, causing a lovely feeling of peace to wash over Dorian. He took a slow breath and then released it and stared at where their hands were connected. He dared not move for fear of breaking the fragile, scintillating connection. "He is in no danger, I promise you," Rex stated, and just like Colby, his words rang true.

Dorian wanted to blurt out that he knew what they were and ask them just how a human-like Paul would fit into the life of a powerful vampire like Sloan Dobre, but he remained silent. It all sounded good until you considered the power differential. "I feel that it is important that Paul have a clear picture of what it is he's getting himself into. Do you know if Sloan is being honest with Paul?"

“Sloan keeps no secrets from Paul. Their relationship is honest and open.” Colby’s words were once again slow and clear, but Dorian wondered if Sloan was being open and honest about everything.

“I’m glad to hear that.” Dorian decided not to protest at least not until he got a clearer understanding of Paul’s relationship with Sloan. He had no right to try and tell him how to live his life, but he felt he had an obligation as his friend to make sure he knew all there was to know about his new boyfriend.

They pulled up to the gated entrance of the Agincourt building and paused as the driver inserted a code. He dealt with Agincourt and some of their concerns in the course of his time as an associate with the Steinhaus law firm. They were always well-prepared, and their legal representatives were some of the tops in the state. Agincourt never did anything halfway.
