"A waitlist? Please. Nathan will just donate a million dollars to whatever school you want this baby to go to and you’ll have a spot."

She’s one hundred percent right. "It’s really sweet to see how much he wants this baby." I sigh, as happy as I’ve ever been. "Too bad I can’t say the same for your brother."

"Is Crew being an asshole? I warned you about him," she tells me.

"Of course he’s not being an asshole." I feel the need to defend him. "He’s just nervous."

"Well, that’s normal. Aren’t you nervous? I would be freaking out."

"I’m more nervous than I want to admit. This is a huge life change. An amazing one, but I haven’t even babysat since I was fifteen. So yes, I’m nervous. But Crew, I don’t know. I feel like I don’t really know what’s going on in his head right now."

"He’s upset about losing the championship. It probably doesn’t have anything to do with the baby. Alexsei was a little pouty right after the game, and he’s never pouty. But," Luna adds. "This was really big for Crew. He put everything into bringing that championship to our hometown in his first season. It’s like he wanted to prove to everyone that bringing him here was the right move."

"It was the right move," I say quickly. "Everyone thinks so."

"I know that. But Crew might not be feeling it right now."

"You’re right." I need to be more sensitive to what Crew is going through right now. His dream was shattered in those final seconds. "At least none of us are dating Blake Wilder," I say, shaking my head. "He must be a nightmare right now to be around."

"Never date a goalie," Luna declares. "It’s a hockey rule."

"I’m not sure I like that rule," Elise says, popping out from the kitchen as she pulls her apron off over her head. "I love me a beefy goalie."

"Don’t do it. Their bad day is like a really fucking bad day." Luna gestures to me. "Guess what, though? Dani is going to be a published romance author! She got offered a publishing deal."

"Shut up! That’s fantastic. Congrats!"

"Thank you." I put my hands to my cheeks, pausing briefly to admire my wedding bands on my ring finger. "Holy crap, is this my real life? Two incredible husbands, one amazing boyfriend, plus a book deal?"

And a baby.

Cookie & Co. is adding a little nugget and I feel like the luckiest woman on the planet.

CHAPTER 8

Crew

"Danielle is upstairs writing. I’m heading out. It might be late."

I tip my head back against the couch cushion to look at Nathan as he shrugs into his jacket.

He’s on his way out to some big fancy dinner with some new potential sponsors.

Michael’s already out. He’s over at Garrett and Deb’s house, helping put together some crazy bookcase system in their home library.

Of course Michael has friends who have a home library.

Even though Dani and I are both welcome at the sponsor’s dinner and at the Baker’s house, we opted for a night in, just the two of us. Dani’s been getting tired earlier in the night as her pregnancy progresses and both of these events had the potential to stretch past her bedtime.

I’m very much looking forward to having her to myself. It feels like we haven’t had a lot of one-on-one time in the past few weeks. Between the end of the season, the wedding, and baby stuff, it feels like everything has been a tornado of emotion and activity.

"Sounds good," I tell Nathan. "See you later."

We’ve been speaking, but Nathan and I haven’t spent any time alone either.

He pauses by the front door, then looks over at me. "Can we talk for a minute?"

I frown and sit up a little straighter. "Is everything okay?" My first thoughts go to Dani. And the baby, of course. She had a doctor's appointment the other day. It was the first. Michael insisted that it was routine, and we didn’t all need to be there. In fact, he thought it would be overwhelming for the doctor and staff to have the four of us crowded into a tiny exam room. Luna had offered to go with Dani instead, but Nathan had insisted on being the one to accompany her.
