I love this couch so much.

I also love the fact that Nathan said he tried to get the old couch back from the dude who bought it from us, but the guy loved it and wouldn’t sell it back. Not even for more than he’d paid for it. So Nathan had to buy this one brand new.

"I will get rid of it again just to shut you up," Nathan says.

I laugh. He won’t. He tried three other couches and couldn’t find one he liked.

"No," I say. "You’re stuck with this couch just like you’re stuck with me."

I take a huge handful of cheese popcorn and throw it up in the air, catching it in my mouth.

Well, I catch most of it. Two kernels bounce off my chin and onto the couch cushions.

"Dammit McNeill," Michael grouses from his spot on the couch between Nathan and I.

"No big deal," I say. "Nathan said he got it stain-treated. We’re going to have a little kid around here. You don’t think there’s gonna be worse things on this couch than cheese popcorn?"

"It’s true," Nathan agrees. "Cheese popcorn is nothing."

"We can just have a no food in the living room rule," Hughes says. He narrows his eyes at me. "For everyone."

"No food for movie nights?" I protest. "Cruel and unusual punishment." I toss more popcorn into my mouth. "When it gets bad enough, Daddy Nathan will just buy us another couch."

Both Doc and I look at Nathan. He just shrugs.

"Fuck, I love Daddy Nathan," I say. "I want a white pony, please."

"I suppose the pony will get to be on the couch too?" Michael asks dryly.

I laugh.

It cracks me up that Nathan is actually the more laid back one about things right now. He is openly admitting that he intends to spoil our child. While Michael is the one insisting we need rules and guidelines, and that we all need to agree that we’re going to discipline the child similarly. He goes on and on about how sending the kid mixed signals will be unfair to him or her, and that if we have rules, we all have to enforce them.

It’s also funny to me that Michael’s more concerned about me and Nathan being too permissive than me and Dani being the easy-going parents.

Danielle has taken on this new air lately. She’s become more serious, more protective, and stronger. More sure of herself. Yes, she’s still sneaking junk food behind Michael’s back—though we all know that he knows—and she worries that she’s not ready to be a mom, but she’s incredibly protective of the baby even still months from delivery.

She’s put up boundaries with her mom and dad, she’s been very strict about her sleep schedule, she’s been doing yoga on a regular basis and, much to my chagrin, it’s not always naked yoga with me.

And she is fully on board with Michael, and all of the rules and guidelines he wants to put in place.

Mama Dani is a pleasant surprise. And strangely sexy.

All through my life I have found rules and regulations something to be tested and pushed.

I don’t think I’m gonna do that with Dani.

For one, I totally respect it. It’s not just sexy, it makes me see her in a whole new light.

Plus, if she decides to discipline me it could mean cutting me off from sexy times and we all know that’s the one thing that might actually work to straighten me up.

Danielle is probably the only person on the planet who can actually get me to behave.

"So hey, Crew, we want to talk to you about something," Nathan says.

I turn the volume down on the game on TV. "Actually I’ve got something, too. Something I need to discuss before Dani gets home."

Dani’s at Books and Buns helping Luna train the new bookstore manager. This is the perfect time for me to get the guys’ help with my plan.
