Whether I want to admit it or not, Johnny probably has information I could use.

“What do you have for me, Johnny?” My voice is bored when I ask it.

“I can tell you how to win over all of Paulie’s men, all of Carmine’s.”

“And Dante’s?” I throw that in there to balance the scales, to ensure that no questions will be asked, and Dante raises an eyebrow at me. “How do I win over Dante's men?” I ask, then I wink at my husband who shakes his head.

“Dante’s men are ruled by Marco and we both know Marco is really your man.”

I fight a tiny smile and watch Dante’s eyebrows furrow in confusion.

“Let me guess—Marco’s right there with you?” he asks, and instead of arguing, telling him that it’s actually Dante who is accompanying me, I cut to the chase. It’s none of his business who I’m with, and clearly, the man can’t be trusted with fucking anything anyway—he’s willing to give me anything to help himself out.

“You’ve got thirty seconds to give me something interesting, Johnny.” I sigh like I’m bored of this exchange.

“Thirty seconds?” he asks, confused and, if I’m not mistaken, indignant.

All men who think they have a modicum of power are indignant when a woman tries to put them in their place.

“Twenty five,” I say, starting my countdown.

“Jesus, I—”

“Twenty.” The man attempted to kidnap Lola, intentionally hurting her to the point where my sweet, easy-going sister needed stitches.

“Lilah—”

“I have zero patience, Vitale,” I say with indifference. “You hurt my sister, killed my father, and now you want immunity. You’d better have something really fuckin’ good for me.” Out of the corner of my eye, I watch Dante’s eyebrow raise and his head tilt in a, That’s my girl, kind of way.

“Paulie’s fucking Dario’s wife.” I pause.

I pause because Dario is one of Paulie’s men.

“Dario actually likes the broad, been trying to knock her up for a year. She’s still on birth control, though, so if Paulie knocks her up, it won’t get too confusing.”

Well.

That would be good information.

Except it could be a death sentence to bring that up without any kind of proof—to insinuate a volatile man’s wife was fucking his higher-up?

“Do you have proof?” I ask. It’s a long shot but . . .

“How the fuck would I have proof.”

“So you’re just giving me gossip, then.”

“It’s not gossip; it’s happening.”

“Everything is gossip if there’s no proof, Johnny. Moving forward with gossip could be a death sentence.” Silence. “Anything else?”

“Jason?” Paulie’s second. “Was recruited by Carmine when he was a kid. He’s loyal to both men.”

Jason seems like he’s going to be the hardest to crack, like if there is one man I need to worry about who will remain loyal to Paulie when the dominos fall, it will be him.

Strange since he was Marco’s in.

His words come back to me.
