That wasn’t the only reason I kept quiet to begin with, though. I finally felt it. Brianna’s genuine envy. And it was addictive. Every movement closer to me was a hit of dopamine. When she inadvertently wrapped herself around me, I could’ve cum right there in the living room. Normally it takes a club full of envy to make me feel this way. For Bree’s few steps closer, her slight claiming of me, to make me react this way? No wonder the others are mental over her.

Now that Jophiel has been outed though, the envy is gone. In its place is sadness and betrayal. “You’re an angel,” Bree repeats; however, not as a question. She knows I wouldn’t have lied about it. “Are you the one who’s been saving me?”

The angel’s head tilts in confusion. Guess that answers that question. “What do you mean, saving you?”

I wrap my hand around Bree’s hip, squeezing in warning. “She had an accident, and someone saved her. We don’t know who.” Brianna looks up to me, a question in her eyes.

Subtly, I shake my head, telling her not to say anything. I wish I could hear the thoughts that are going on in her head as multiple emotions flicker across her face at once.

“Hey, Josie,” the succubus says across the room. “Why don’t we head out so they can get to their date?” Ubus are my favorite demons because they cause the most envy of others. And this one may be my absolute favorite of them all. My eyes briefly leave Bree to give the succubus a nod of thanks, then immediately go back to her. We stare into each other’s eyes, arms wrapped around each other as the door closes behind the other women.

I could stare into her eyes all day, the green only a shade darker than my own. If only we had more time last night, who knows what could have happened when it was just the two of us. Most of the others may have bonded with her or have gotten to touch her, but I’m the one who actually got to know her. I know more about her than my brothers, of that I’m 100% sure.

Rellick’s voice is what finally breaks us apart. “Mommy?” The boy is standing behind Bree, pulling on her dress. “I’m hungry.”

She gives me a shy smile before focusing her attention on her son. Normally, my automatic response to her taking her attention away from me would be envy but watching her with Rellick has a new emotion popping up.

Fascination. Amusement. Awe.

Brianna gives Rellick all of her attention, no crumbs left for anyone else, and yet, she’s made sure that I’m aware she still knows I’m here. Her focus may be on Rellick, but her hand has not left my arm and her thigh is pressed up against mine.

She doesn’t make me feel lesser, though I am aware I am not the most important person in the room.

“Well, what would you like to eat?”

Rellick is ignoring me. Hasn’t even acknowledged that I’m here. He pretends to think about it for a second, placing a finger on his chin. “Shrimp.”

“I can definitely make that happen.” Both Theriot’s turn their attention to me at my words. “I know the best seafood place in the world.”

The kid studies me for a moment before tugging his mom down to his level, whispering in her ear. Brianna laughs behind her hand, then stands up to face me formally. A sly smirk is on her face. “Rellick says he already knows the best place in the world, but he will try your place if you can prove that you are fun like Santa and not Luc.”

I squat down so that I am on the same level as Rellick. “Well, kid. Your mom told me that your favorite thing in the whole world was to swim. And swimming is my favorite thing to do, too.”

His eyes grow huge in his excitement before dropping back into his curious expression. “Mommy said it’s too cold to go swimming.”

“Here, maybe.” Though being spring in Louisiana is not nearly as cold as other places. “But I know a great spot that’s warm, and has seafood, and we can swim with no problem.”

“Oh yeah!” Rellick runs from us and into his room, coming out a few moments later wearing swim trunks and a backwards shirt guard. “I’m ready! Let’s go!” He runs up to me, taking my hand. Brianna, however, is still in jeans and a tee.

She chuckles to herself and walks to her room, closing the door behind her. “Are we really going swimming?” Rellick asks me.

“We sure are.” I have no idea how to talk to a toddler. Is he a toddler? What makes a toddler? Brianna said he goes to daycare, though it’s called a preschool. What’s the difference?

My train of thought derails when Brianna walks back into the room. A black see-through cover hides none of her curves in the white two-piece swimsuit. Her breasts are full, pushed together by the halter top and while her bottoms are high waisted, they cinch in her stomach and show off the curves of her hips. Fuck! I can’t have a hardon right now. I’m holding a child’s hand for Hell’s sake! “Mommy! Hurry up!”

Bree slips into her shoes, before walking to my other side and holding my hand. She could’ve held Rellick’s hand, but she chose to hold mine. Bet my brothers would be envious now if they saw Brianna in her swimsuit.

I think of my yacht in the middle of the Mediterranean, teleporting us onto the deck. Rellick looks around at the surrounding water with awe. Dolphins are jumping out of the water a way off. On the opposite side, a whale shoots water out of its hole leaving a fine mist to dust over us. “Wooooow. Mommy, look!” Rellick runs to the side of the yacht towards the dolphins, and Bree goes flailing after him, panic fueling her movements.

“Levi!” I catch Rellick before he gets too close to the side of the yacht, turning him towards his mother. She takes him from my arms, holding him close. “Jesus, Levi! I told you that we’ve never been on a boat before. He could have jumped off!”

I lead the two of them to a circular table where we are meant to eat. “I wouldn’t have let him jump, Brianna. There is a barrier on the yacht. Nothing can get on or off without my permission.” At her look of confusion, I continued. “I am King of Envy, yes, but on Earth, I might as well be King of the Sea.”

Bree sets Rellick in the seat, but the table is a touch too tall. I snap my fingers for the chair to switch out for one that is higher. She gives me a grateful smile as I hold out her own seat for her. “I thought that was Poseidon?” she asks once we are all settled.

Shaking my head, I give a laugh. “No. That’s God of the sea and he’s been in hibernation for some time.” Bree’s eyes gleam with curiosity. I love that she’s willing to just sit here and listen to anything I have to say. That we can have a real conversation. “All of the epics are mostly true. They’re being told by the people who have come in contact with the gods, so don’t be surprised if they are exaggerated. Most of the supernatural that were cursed, were by the gods. They were all children having too much fun.” I place my hand on her arm, wanting to feel close to her. “Please keep in mind that I’m hearing these things from multiple sources. The dead, as well as written works, and only a few from Gods themselves.”

“I’ve always been partial to Hades, which is ironic because I’m currently in a relationship with multiple kings of Hell.”
