"Summer, look at me."

I blinked sleepily at him, "Mmm?"

"How do you feel?"

"Mmm?"

"I need you to tell me," he insisted, kissing my forehead, "how do you feel?”

"Well,” I squirmed, squeezing my thighs, which were folded between his, "I would like to come now, sir."

He chuckled darkly, the sound rumbling through me like a soft thunderstorm. "What else? Did I hurt you?"

"Not technically."

"Good," he kissed my cheeks, then softly over my ear, nibbling down to my neck. Making a warmth spread through my chest again and down my throbbing core. "If I ever hurt you, tell me, okay?"

I nodded, "okay."

He clasped me close, holding me to him. "Would you like to sleep now?"

I thought about it, then, finally, shook my head. "No, I just need to lay here for a little bit."

"Okay," he murmured.

We lay like that for a long moment, with him occasionally pressing soft kisses and stroking my skin with his fingers. It kept the throbbing sensation pulsing between my legs. But, even though I was dying to come, weirdly, I understood.

I still felt guilty for searching through his stuff, after everything he’d been through. After what my own father had done to him.

After he’d trusted me enough to confide in me.

I deserved to suffer.

"Summer?" His breath washed over my ear and I shivered, pulling back to look at him.

"Yes?"

"If you could have anything in this world, anything at all, what would it be?"

"Why?" I crooked an eyebrow upward.

"Don't ask questions," he softly chastised, biting softly on my nose, then pressed a kiss there, "just answer the question."

"I'd bring Amara here."

"Amara?"

"She's my best friend."

He was silent for a moment. Then, "and that's what you would want? Out of anything and everything that you could do, that's what you'd pick?"

“Yeah,” I nodded, noting the way the light from the window was giving the usually harsh expression on his face a soft, dreamy quality, “I miss her sometimes.”

"I see," he pulled me into him again, stroking his thumb across my hair, growing silent.

I tucked under his chin, smiling to myself.

Despite everything Rook had ever told me, he was a good person. He just didn't know it.
