She nodded, suddenly shy again.

“Now," I placed it in her hands, knowing I would steal them later. “Tell me the truth. If you lie to me, I’ll know.” Maneuvering her so I could look in her eyes, I kissed over her throat, massaged the back of her head. “Did I hurt you? Earlier?” I hadn’t been able to control myself—and I was ashamed of that.

It was one of the biggest reasons I hadn’t wanted to be her first—she deserved better.

But a smile broke out on her face. She tried to hide it, pressing her face into my chest. I took her chin, tilting it towards me, “You liked it?” I asked, rubbing my thumb across her lower lips.

She nodded, her voice breathless. “It made me feel… I don’t know how to explain. It made me feel good. Wanted. And I think it turned me on even more.”

“Fuck,” I whispered against her lips, kissing her. This woman was made for me.

I cupped her cunt gently. “Does this hurt?"

She nodded. “A little bit."

"We’ll fix that," I said. "You can take a warm bath."

“Okay," she said, a soft smile on her face.

“I need to tell you something,” I was suddenly nervous, especially after everything I’d just confessed.

“What?”

“I…” I struggled to put together a coherent sentence, words that wouldn’t hurt her. I ran my fingers through her hair, kissing over her forehead. “I’m a slave to the Magnolia, now.”

“But you promised?—”

“I know. Of course, I belong to you, Summer. I will never deny that,” I growled, “But the Magnolia won’t honor that, of course. I need you to seriously consider leaving me.”

Her lips parted, hurt in her gaze, and I hated the way my heart squeezed. Anguish filled me, and I couldn’t stop from kissing her again, trying to explain, my voice filled with pain. “You are the light in my life. And I never want to part from you again. But my world will only be dark from here on out.”

“The light is stronger than the dark,” she argued fiercely. “My light can swallow the darkness.”

“I know, baby.” I kissed her again, my fingers pinching her chin, trying to be so tender. “And it would be worth it—to me. But not for you,” I rushed to stop her protest. “Just, promise me you’ll consider it,” I said against her lips. “I can’t hurt you anymore. If not for you, then consider it—for Callie.”

She bit down on her lip, her eyes filling with a dejected sorrow.

“Promise you’ll think about it.”

Nodding, she clasped my jaw and kissed me. There was something miserable in her touch against mine, something that tugged and weighed down my heart. She was going to leave me, I knew it.

I felt my heart cracking, my insides aching.

But I had given up my control to her, and needed to accept her choice, even though it would kill me.

Sometimes to love someone, you have to let them go.

After a long, mournful kiss, I pulled back. I needed to make it easier for her.

Forcing on a smile, I nipped her lips playfully, “But not yet. Not tonight. First, I’m going to clean you, and we’ll take a warm bath. Then, when you’re falling asleep, I'm going to hold you. Tell me if you need anything, okay?"

She nodded, "Yes, sir," I but I was already moving, spreading her out on my bed, leaning down to spread her legs wide.

“Ack!” she squealed, protesting, “I thought you meant with a wash cloth.”

“Why the hell would I do that?”

“But...the blood…"
