Then suddenly, the pressure was gone: his hand on my neck and the vibrator—tossed to the side.

I collapsed against him as he pulled me up and into his arms. Cradling me protectively. “What a good, beautiful girl,” he crooned. His lips pressed to my hair, his fingers soothing my skin. “So so good, baby girl.”

I relaxed against him, boneless.

“We’re not done,” he said, his hand gripping my jaw. “Summer, look at me.”

I blinked my eyes open, exhausted but oh so happy.

His expression was serious, his fingers digging into my skin. “I will never be with another woman. You’re it for me, Summer—you and the chaos you bring in to my life. The only woman I want, except little girls running around the house, creating your brand of crazy.” Once again, his eyes were savage, his hair wild. The antlers still on his head. Like a feral king of the forest. “Marry me, Summer. Marry me and give me a family. I swear to never let you down. To always protect you and everyone you love. To fuck you every day, and put a hundred babies in this belly. A family as big as you want. And I will never, ever, abandon you. I would first carve my own heart out from my chest than ever leave you. I love you, Summer Duvall, and never want to be away from you. Say you’ll marry me.”

I took a deep breath, the familiar scent of home filling my lungs.

A rush of warmth washed over me that had nothing to do with the pain wracking the rest of my body. And, as I stared into his eyes, I knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, he would always be there. Despite the things Rook had said, he’d proved to me time and time again that he would always protect and love me. That he would never leave me. That he would burn with fire for me.

Suddenly, a weight lifted off my shoulders—gone was the fear and uncertainty that had consumed me for so long.

This was my happy ending—one filled with love, hope, and most importantly, trust.

It wasn’t an ending of my old life, but a new beginning filled with endless possibilities.
