That was true. Not to mention Italian authorities would be a bitch to deal with when it came to getting the jewels back to the States.

“You said you were going to have people following the guy?” I turned my question to Matthias.

He blinked in surprise and then nodded. “Yes, a team is on their way over there.”

Xavier looked at me. “What are you thinking?”

“Have the team follow him but not make contact. That way you can pose as a buyer and get your shit back. He’s probably already stashed the diamonds somewhere so the best way to lure him out is to try and buy them off him.”

The entire room was silent for a long beat, all three men exchanging looks.

Finn shrugged. “It’s not a bad plan.”

Xavier answered him with a smirk. “Not at all. You heard her. Have our team keep tabs on him. Once we’ve secured where he’s keeping the diamonds, arrange a meeting to buy them. And then snatch the fucker and bring him back here.”

Both men nodded. “Will do.”

I grinned. Man, it felt good stretching my wings again like this. My father wasn’t in the market for the kind of problem solving I liked to do since dealing with my sister had become a full-time job.

So this was a nice treat.

“Amanda,” Xavier held out a hand to me.

“Thank you,” Matthias said as we passed by. “Sir, we’ll keep you updated.”

“Good.”

When we got back into the car, I was buzzing with energy. “So? How did I do?”

The car began to move, pulling out of the dark parking lot and heading out onto the quiet street.

Instead of answering me, Xavier grabbed my face and pulled me into a heated kiss.

Chapter Six

Xavier

With each passing day, I found myself falling deeper and deeper in love with my wife.

It struck me as profound one night when I laid awake in bed with Amanda’s head resting against my chest while she slept, my fingers tangled in her hair. I was probably the luckiest son of a bitch on this planet.

Never in my life did I think I’d find someone like her, let alone marry her and fall in love. I was hoping that through our letters, I would find out something that was a deal breaker, some kind of excuse that would show me that she wasn’t as perfect as she seemed.

But no matter what questions I asked or what opinions I expressed, she met me with the same energy. It was even better in person.

My match, my equal.

And here I was actually married to her for the rest of my life.

Joy wasn’t even the proper word to describe how all of this felt. It was like every morning I woke up with a damn rainbow shining outside of my window while the birds chirped in the background.

I felt foolish for having dragged my feet over the past few months, putting off our wedding until it was no longer possible to stall. I’d been afraid that what I was getting myself into was too good to be true and it had cost me precious months with my new wife.

As a silver lining, though, that time before we wed had helped us get to know each other. So I supposed I couldn’t be too upset. I had her now and that’s all that mattered.

“Sir.”

I looked up from my mound of paperwork to see Finn coming in with a package in his hand. “This was dropped off for you.”
