Fender’s mine.

Chapter 25

Firecracker and vixen – are not mutually exclusive

Fender

We play five songs before calling it quits. Although Leia appears to be having a good time with Indigo and Virginia, I’m glad when I’m off the stage and she’s in my arms again.

“You want another martini?” I ask.

“I’m good.”

I notice Cash grab his girl and head out. Dylan and Virginia follow them. Good idea.

“You want to stay or are you ready to go home?” I shout in Leia’s ear since the crowd is still clamoring for an encore.

“I’m ready to go.”

I wave to Gibson and Jett before leading Leia to the exit. “You okay to walk?”

“It’s less than five minutes.”

I tweak her nose. “Not an answer.”

“Let’s walk.”

I wrap my arm around her waist and she cuddles close to me as we start toward her house.

“I love this town,” she says on a sigh.

“Agree.”

“I don’t miss the ocean at all.” She waves toward the mountains in the distance. “Those more than make up for a bunch of salt water.”

“You don’t miss the city?”

“And miss having a pet store that sells squirrels and a candle store that sells sexy candles?”

“Wouldn’t want to miss those.”

“Although it does kind of freak me out how the woman who makes the sex candles is old enough to be my grandmother. I actually think my grandmother was younger than her when she passed away.”

“Petal is a character.”

“All of the gossip gals are.”

I grunt in agreement.

“Should we go pick up Princess?” she asks when we’re nearly at her house.

“Princess is fine. The woman she’s with manages the wildlife refuge.”

“I can’t believe you asked the wife of a movie star to puppysit my dog.”

I shrug. “Movie stars are people, too.”

And fame is an illusion. It can disappear at the snap of your fingers.
