“I’m surprised you didn’t do it last night.” Dylan crossed his arms.

“Fire chief wouldn’t let me in until after the building inspector did his work. I was too tired to wait for him last night.”

Dylan turned to her. “You should go on over there. Enjoy the day. Forget about missing cars and anything else worrying you.”

“What will I do?” Lilianna asked.

Hunter smirked “You can be my guest for the day. I’ll be at the shop. You can look around to your heart’s content.”

An hour later, wearing borrowed clothes, Lilianna climbed the stairs and followed a quiet Hunter toward what was supposed to be a secret entrance to Old West Town, where he worked.

Secretly, she couldn’t wait to visit this place during the day to see what all was there. Having a personally guided tour beforehand with the resident woodcarver was also very exciting.

Hunter hadn’t said anything about her future with them or if she was invited to spend another night, and she didn’t ask. They could talk about it later.

Her plan was to enjoy the day at the Old West Town, looking around and ignoring all the problems stacking up in her old life, starting with her missing car. Meanwhile, Sammy, Ted, the fake FBI agents, all of them could kiss her lily-white ass.

Hunter had seemed gracious and certainly accommodating before they left his house, but he hadn’t been at all talkative. Lilianna didn’t want to presume she was staying on with them tonight or any further night, but also didn’t want to leave.

Dylan had gone to work by the time she had finished showering. With her car missing, she was going to have to get some clothing staples for a couple days until it turned up and she could get her suitcase from the trunk. If her things hadn’t been stolen from her missing car. Who would want such a piece of shit car anyway?

Perhaps after they left the amusement park, they could stop in town for a few essentials.

Gratefully, Hunter had found some women’s clothing for her in the guest room closet. She was glad she didn’t have to wear the same clothes as yesterday, which had spent the night crumpled at the end of the bed. She didn’t ask where the new clothing came from, and he didn’t offer.

He got dressed into a very sexy Western costume befitting a woodcarver in the late nineteenth century.

Together they took a golf cart through an underground tunnel to get into the park, by way of the secret entrance. Lilianna was over-the-top excited before they even made it to his woodworking shop. All the while, Lilianna hated that she might have brought this tragedy to his doorstep.

“Are you sure it’s okay for me to be here without getting a ticket?”

“Yes. It’s a private party today, but we are allowed to have guests whenever we want. Today it should be fairly quiet with the exclusive group only. Don’t worry, it’ll be fine.”

“Well, thank you. I’m already excited by just getting to go on the golf cart ride again in the underground tunnel. That’s how Dylan got us over here last night.”

His signature smirk returned. He grabbed her elbow as they reached the top step, went down a short hallway, and through a huge wooden door.

Once through, he closed the doors again. Down the hallway was a right-hand turn into another hall. Once they turned the corner they entered yet another hallway. “Up ahead is the outer foyer of the bank. If we were to get separated or you wander off, meet me back at the wooden doors at 3:00 p.m., and we’ll go back to the house together.”

“So…am I invited back to your house tonight?”

The smirk disappeared. “Yes. Of course.”

“I don’t want to wear out my welcome.”

The smirk returned with the half smile. “You won’t. Stay as long as you want to.”

“Really?”

He nodded, but before he could say any more, someone entered into the bank’s outer foyer dressed in a bowler hat and a suit. In Lilianna’s opinion, the man looked exactly like a banker. He nodded once at Hunter and proceeded to open the bank’s inner glass doors with a skeleton key.

“Can I see the inner workings of your woodcarving shop?” she asked.

“I’ll have to check it for safety first, but the front area of the building should be okay for a short tour.” Hunter led her through the bank’s outer doors and onto the wooden sidewalk.
