“Yes, I do.”

“Taylor it is.”

She holds up her hand, studying her ring. “I love my ring.”

“Good. When do you want to get married?”

She giggles softly. “Well, since neither of us has family to worry about, I think we can pretty much get married whenever we want. I would like to lose some of the baby weight.”

“You tell me when and I will happily be there. I will marry you anytime, anywhere.”

“Can we have a beach wedding?” she asks.

“Absolutely. That sounds perfect. Me, you and Taylor.”

“I think I want an off-white dress with lace,” she smiles, staring off into the dark. “And a little baby tux for Taylor.”

She continued to outline the wedding of her dreams. I listen and nod along. I’m more than happy to do whatever she wants. With the change in our financial circumstances, we can afford it. She’s going to be staying home with the baby until she decides what she wants to do.

The lights on the monitor illuminate in the dark, matching the hungry cries of our son. “I’ll get him,” I tell her.

I deliver our son to her, watching her put the baby to her breast. My heart feels like it was full to the point of bursting.

We put our son to bed, his tiny chest rising and falling in the rhythm of sleep before we go off to our own bed. I crawl in behind her, holding her close.

It may not be the glamorous, extravagant life she once knew, but it's a life filled with love, laughter, and endless possibilities.

“Goodnight,” I whisper into the dark.

“Goodnight.”

“I’ll get up with him,” I tell her.

“Unless you start lactating, I don’t see any reason for you to lose any sleep.”

I chuckled softly. “Sorry.”

“It’s okay. I don’t mind. I’m too happy to care about losing a little sleep.”

I kiss the side of her head and close my eyes. This is what life is about. All the years I lived were pretty unremarkable before I met her. She made everything better. I couldn’t wait to see what the rest of our life held in store.
