“No. It’s perfect, Aiden. Oh, my God. I can’t believe we’re just flying to Las Vegas to have fun.”

Taking off to a party place on a whim wasn’t even something that had ever occurred to me, much less something I’d think could happen for real.

I was a struggling single mom, and women like me didn’t get a chance to do these things.

Usually.

I leaned over, put an arm around his shoulders, and kissed him because I couldn’t help myself, taking my time to savor the taste of him before I finally pulled back. “Thank you for this. It’s the sweetest thing anybody has ever done for me.”

My eyes started to tear up, but I blinked hard until they dried up.

Don’t cry. You can’t cry.

“I wasn’t doing it to be sweet,” he said warmly. “Maybe I’m just trying to get laid without our daughter around.”

I snorted. Aiden was incredibly sweet, whether he wanted to admit it or not. “This will definitely get you laid as many times as you want, any way that you want,” I teased.

He tipped my chin up, and he kissed me this time.

And his embrace was rough, but tender.

I sighed into his mouth, and he explored for so long that I lost track of anything except his lips on mine.

He was demanding, but the kiss was still sweet.

As he pulled back and looked into my eyes, he growled. “Be careful what you promise, sweetheart. I’ve been deprived for a long time. You might never see Vegas.”

My body was already primed from his uncomplicated but fierce embrace. “I’m starting to think that wouldn’t be so bad. We could always come back,” I said breathlessly.

I’d quite happily spend several days naked in a hotel room with him. I had no doubt that I wasn’t going to be happy to see him get dressed, either.

“We have to eat,” he mentioned.

“Room service?” I suggested.

I’d been so hungry for Aiden. I always had been, even when I hadn’t liked him very much.

The two of us had a primal, elemental attraction that gnawed at me unceasingly, and it was making me crazy.

He stroked a hand over my hair. “I’ve got plans for us, Skye, but I left a lot of downtime.”

“Thank God,” I answered, and then dived in for another kiss.

CHAPTER 20

AIDEN

“You’re good, sweetheart. Tuck your cards,” I told Skye as I sat next to her at a blackjack table.

She turned her head and looked at me, her eyes shining with mischief. “How do you figure that out so fast? And how do you know I should stay with what I have? I’ve only got fourteen. Shouldn’t I take a card?”

I shook my head and adjusted myself on my stool again.

One smile, one look, and my dick was harder than a rock.

The woman was killing me, and she didn’t even know it.

“It’s all about the odds. He has a card up that, according to the odds, should make him bust. It doesn’t always work that way, but you have to follow the same odds all the time.”

She smiled brighter. “Okay, that makes sense.”

Skye had pretty much been elated since we’d come into the hotel. Probably way earlier than that, if I wanted to count her joy at flying in an airplane—and I was counting that, because I treasured every damn moment that she was happy.

She’d laughed like a carefree girl through dinner, and then again when we’d tried the slot machines. Playing cards wasn’t her thing, but she’d been game to try it.

The waitress dropped off our drinks, and I tipped her as I watched the game play out.

The dealer busted.

“I won,” she said, sounding delighted.

I’d won, too, but I wasn’t looking at my chips.

I couldn’t take my eyes off Skye.

In her black cocktail dress and ballbuster high heels, she was every man’s fantasy.

Her blonde hair had been pulled up into a large silver clip, but tendrils had escaped throughout the night, a look that made her even more desirable.

Hell, I was pretty sure she could wear a burlap sack and my dick would find her irresistible.

“Are you okay?” she asked in a concerned tone.

She’d obviously just noticed that I was staring at her. “I’m good. I guess I got distracted.”

“Do you want to take a walk?” she suggested.

I nodded, not trusting myself to speak. If I did, I’d be telling her exactly what I really wanted.

A walk would be good.

I needed time to try to pull my shit together.

I put my chips into my pants pocket, and I watched her as she carefully placed hers in a tiny black purse that she secured over her body with a long strap.

We grabbed our drinks—since we’d asked for plastic to-go cups, there was no problem carrying them out of the casino.

“Where to?”

I took her hand and led her outside, knowing she’d love the lights now that it was completely dark.

“Let’s just stroll down the Strip,” I advised.

Since it was still spring, it wasn’t ungodly hot.

We walked aimlessly, not caring where we were going. It didn’t matter to me as long as Skye was with me.

“If I haven’t said it already, thank you for this,” she said softly after several minutes had passed. “It’s incredible. And the lights are amazing.”

“I was pretty sure you’d like it,” I said with a smirk. “And stop thanking me. I’m enjoying this, too. I haven’t been to Vegas for years. It feels good to take a break.”

“I can’t remember when I’ve been this relaxed,” she agreed as she sipped her drink. “Of course, it could be the alcohol I’ve consumed, too.”

“Two glasses of wine at dinner and the drink you have now are not going to get you drunk.”

“I don’t want to get hammered,” she shared. “I want to remember every minute of this. Have you noticed that there’s art everywhere here? Sculptures, paintings, and amazing photographs. It’s pretty spectacular.”

Now that I thought about it, she was right. It wasn’t something I was looking for, since I didn’t know shit about art. But it was the kind of thing that Skye would notice. “Vegas is over-the-top in almost every way.”

“Maybe that’s why it’s so much fun,” she considered.

“Speaking of Vegas insanity, did you want to ride any of the things you saw online?”

She’d been on the Internet moments after I’d told her we were going to Vegas. I’d loved watching her point out all the attractions in the city.

“The Stratosphere coaster for sure,” she said excitedly. “Honestly, I’d love to do any of them.”

That’s my girl.

Skye had always been pretty much fearless. So I wasn’t all that surprised that she wanted to try anything and everything.

“We’ll check it all out tomorrow,” I promised. “Maybe catch a show tomorrow night.”

She let out a happy sigh. “That would be amazing. I’ve never seen a live performance.”

She sounded so ecstatic that my erect dick was twitching. I wanted to pin her against a wall and capture that happiness while I pounded myself into her until the unrelenting desire I was feeling right now was satisfied.
