“Well you did that, in the best possible way.”

“Well, not the best possible way,” she said with a laugh. “But let’s save that for later.”

Later, that sounded good and just the idea of later had my cock already hardening again, but Olive’s yawn said those plans for later would have to wait. “A man’s gotta recharge,” I said instead, frowning to sell it.

She yawned again and laid a hand on my chest and then rested her head on top of that hand. “Nice try Liam but my eyes see you’re already ready to go again. See,” she yawned again. “Sweet.”

I rolled my eyes at that damn word but my lips formed a smile and a strange warmth spread at the compliment.

Stone was right, this was complicated.OliveMy eyes drifted towards the clock on my computer again. At last count that made forty or fifty glances, something that never happened when I was at the office. Time For Love was my life, as sad as that was to admit. I often worked late and ate at least two meals at my desk every single day, but today I was distracted. No, I wasn’t just distracted, I was eager to leave for the day even though I had no plans and no one to rush home to when my day inevitably did end.

“Are you gonna stare into space all day or show up for the afternoon meeting?” Eva’s sarcastic tone was exactly the distraction I needed from my even more distracting thoughts. When I looked up she wore a playful smile, looking sleek and well put together in a black and grey dress that hugged her curves beautifully.

I smiled and shrugged, leaning back in my seat with a casualness I didn’t feel. “I was planning on staring into space all day but since you’ve thwarted my plans, I suppose the meeting will have to suffice.”

Eva’s dark brows lifted in surprise. “Someone’s feeling feisty today. I like it.”

“You would,” I shot back and stood, reaching for my tablet and a notebook. “What’s this meeting about again?” I couldn’t help but laugh at the look of confusion on her face. “Kidding. I’m pregnant Eva, not brain damaged.”

“Some days I can’t tell the difference,” she said and stuck her tongue out at me. “How are you feeling today?”

“Better. Still feeling morning sickness but it’s not as severe and it definitely doesn’t last all day, so I’ve decided to accept the win.” My hand went to my stomach instinctively, something I felt myself doing more and more lately. “How are things with you and Oliver?”

The smile that spread across her face said everything. Eva was deliriously happy and so completely in love I couldn’t help but smile when I looked at her. “Things are great. Really great, actually. Is that bad to say?”

“Never!” With a hand to her shoulder to stop her fast steps, I set my gaze on one of my closest friends and glared. Hard. “I am so damn happy that you’re happy, Eva. Please don’t think you need to dampen your happiness for my sake. Besides, if a cynic like you can fall in love, there’s still hope for me.”

Eva put a hand to her chest in fake outrage. “Me, a cynic? Who’s been lying about me?” We shared a laugh and walked inside the conference room where Sophie waited with a patient smile and a look of mischief in her eyes.

I stopped at the door even as Eva kept going and scanned the room. Eva and Sophie’s tablets were there but they were stacked on top of one another in the corner and the center of the table was laden with food. “What’s going on?” This set up smacked of my friends scheming behind my back and immediately, I bristled. “Well?”

“Sit,” Sophie instructed in that bossy way of hers that you didn’t’ realize was bossy until it was too late and you’d been dancing to her tune for an hour.

“Tell me what’s going on,” I insisted, arms folded and my gaze darting to the exit every few seconds.

Eva retraced her steps and laid a sympathetic hand on my shoulder. “Nothing major. We just wanted an update on things with you and Liam,” she started patiently, as if talking to a cornered animal.

“And we knew you’d be reluctant to talk about it publicly,” Sophie added in a calm, rational tone I appreciated. Mostly.

After what happened with Liam a couple nights ago, I did need to talk about it. And what it might mean, if it even meant anything but a few hours of pleasure. “Okay fine.” I took a seat and reached for an empanada with a grin. “There’s nothing to update,” I told them easily while I slowly tucked into the empanada and then a hard shell taco. And then chips and salsa. “Unless you count the fact that we had sex. Again.”
