“My name is Sapphire,” I told him. “Sapphire Rose Faye, and I’m a person. And you’re fucking hurting me.”

He leaned in against me and grinned in my face.

“You look pretty when you’re hurting,” he said. “I fucking like it.”

I tore myself from his grip so fast I nearly toppled over.

“Fuck you,” I told him. “Fuck you so hard.”

“But you didn’t,” he reminded me.

“And I won’t,” I said, and he laughed. “I’m fucking serious!”

“I think that’s up to me, not you,” he said, and the bastard closed the door.“What. The fuck. Have you done?”

Veronica was furious, her eyes blazing when I came home. She nearly jumped out of her skin when she saw my outfit, my mussed hair and my ruined makeup.

“Are you fucking serious right now?”

“What?” I asked innocently, setting down my stuff on the kitchen counter. “I’m home.”

“I got a fucking call from the company!” she shouted. “I’m fucking fired!”

“Shit.” I bit my bottom lip. “I’m so sorry, Veronica, I…”

“You didn’t fucking think,” she spat out. “You just left with some fucking guy! You didn’t even think about me! And what in fucking hell’s name is that monstrosity?”

She pointed to a huge canvas leaned against the wall and I nearly cried with laughter when I realized it was the painting from the previous night, the one he’d bought for me. A giggle escaped me and she roared with anger.

“I’m fucking done here, Sapphire,” she told me. “Done. I was going to do this later, but might as well get it over with now.”

She crossed her arms in front of her body and the ring on her finger glinted. It was a shitty, tiny stone.

“You got engaged?” I asked her, hoping to distract her. I really was a bad friend.

“Yes,” she replied sharply. “And he’s moving in. So I was going to give you a week to leave, but you know what? Fuck that, Sapphire. Get the fuck out of here.”

My mouth dropped open and I stared at her incredulously. “Are you being serious?”

“Yes!” she screamed, the rage coming off her like steam. “I am, you got me fucking fired. All for some guy… You know, Sapph, I really thought we could be friends. But I do not associate with sluts.”

I just stood there awkwardly, thinking about the previous night. I really was a slut.

“Fine,” I replied in a small voice. “I’ll go pack up my shit.”

“Good,” she said, watching me leave.

I got to my tiny, cramped room and slammed the door closed behind me. I looked at the space I called mine and wanted to fucking cry. But there’d been enough tears today. I went to the creaking closet and started pulling my shit out. How I’d get it out of here, I didn’t know. I didn’t even own a fucking suitcase.

I spent the next few hours packing up my room. I put everything in piles, deciding whether I should swallow my pride and ask Veronica to lend me a hand with the heavier stuff. Or maybe I needed to call my parents. Mom and Dad hadn’t even called me the past few weeks. No one gave a shit anymore.

I swallowed back a sob and sat on the bed. How had my week gone from so fucking amazing to a complete fucking nightmare in a matter of hours?

There was a knock on the door, and I called for Veronica to come in.

She stood in the doorway, her arms crossed – probably to show off that stupid fucking ring – and glared at me.

“Who was the man you left with last night?” she asked, and I glared at her.

“I don’t see how that’s any of your business,” I snapped, and she smirked.

“He got me my job back,” she informed me. “At least I think it was him. And a pay raise. Good for you, Sapph, at least you know how to whore it out with the right people.”

I got up from my bed and walked up to her until our faces were inches apart. She had lipstick on her teeth.

“Don’t fucking talk to me like that,” I told her. “You don’t know shit.”

“I do,” she smirked, tilting her head. “I know you gave up your fucking cherry for the first guy that found your bony ass hot. You probably screamed like a pig when he fucked you.”

“Veronica,” I told her sweetly. “When I give up my cherry, you’ll be the first to know. And I’ll fucking think about your pathetic, ugly face when I’m done coming, because that shitty ring on your hand? It’s as good as your life is ever going to get.”

“Get the fuck out,” she hissed, and I laughed in her face.

“Gladly.”

I pushed past her, not bothering with any of my shit. I didn’t care, I just needed to get away from her.

“By the way, you’re welcome, about the pay raise. And tell Craig I said hi.” I grinned at her sweetly. “Oh, he’s fucking Jessica, by the way.”
