Andy sniffs away tears, the same sound coming from the crowd around us.
“I vow to be yours,” I continue, the words echoing the emotions I feel deep in my chest. “To stand beside you as your partner, your ally, your greatest fan, and your fiercest protector. In this life and the next, you’re my home, my heart, my forever.”
Tears glisten in Andy’s eyes as he begins his. “Brett, You’ve been the constant in a world that’s ever-changing. You taught me how to do a running pass tackle and how to be a great role model, you’ve taught me how to make it through difficult situations and never to let anyone compromise your values or what you stand for. And when I see you with Izzy, I know that you are a walking hero with powers that rival Superman.”
The ivy rustles and a bird chirps loudly nearby. My world stops, tunneling on Andy.
“I vow to stand beside you, to hold you up when you’re about to fall, and always to keep you safe,” Andy continues, “I am yours, Brett.”
Izzy, our precious girl, steps forward, her hands holding the rings that symbolize the eternal bond we’re sealing today. Her eyes gleam with the innocence and wisdom that only a child’s soul can hold.
I take the ring, a circle of infinite love, and slide it onto Andy’s finger. It’s a perfect fit.
Andy takes the other ring, and as he slides it onto my finger, the world shifts, the universe converges, and in this moment, we’re infinite.
“I now pronounce you husbands,” the officiant’s words seal the vows, the promises that define us.
Our lips meet, and the world dissolves all over again. It’s a kiss that seals a bond as ancient as time, as profound as the universe, and as infinite as love. One that no amount of prejudice or bigotry can ever break or stain.
Applause and cheers erupt around us, but we’re suspended in the sacred space where souls meet, unite, and become one.
I married my best friend today. And I couldn’t be any fucking happier.
The End
