It was only a short time after we moved that we got married. We had a small wedding here with our close friends and family in attendance and exchanged our vows under the stars.
Zane's voice echoes through the room as the front door opens. "Where are my girls?" Every time he returns home from a day of teaching, those four words leave his lips.
"Daddy!" Our five-year-old daughter, who was born with my smile but with a face mirroring Zane's, rushes into his arms as he lifts her.
"I missed you, Kimmy," he says before gently kissing her nose.
"And Mommy?"
"Of course I missed Mommy." I walk toward him, my steps more like a shuffle now, and he gently presses his lips against mine. "Hey, sweetheart, are you both doing okay?" He caresses my seven-month-old baby bump, and our son kicks his hand. "I'll take that as a yes."
As soon as dinner is over, Zane scoops up our little angel, Kimmy, whom we named after his sister, and takes her upstairs for her nightly bath and story time. I watch as he carries her upstairs, my heart so full of love.
An hour later, Zane comes back downstairs dressed in only gray sweatpants that hug his hips and make my heart beat a little faster. They're also partly to blame for why I'm pregnant again.
He’s still the most beautiful man I have ever laid eyes on, and our connection has only deepened with each passing year. Although he may not be as muscular as he used to be and prefers to spend his time at home being the most fantastic daddy and husband rather than at the gym, I can still see the outline of his abs, and the subtle streaks of gray in his hair only add to his attractiveness.
Sitting beside me on the couch, he pats his lap. I shift my position, resting my head on his legs as he massages my scalp. My eyes flutter closed, and a soft groan escapes my lips.
"How many times have I asked you not to do that?"
"Sorry, Professor, but it feels so good." A smirk graces my face as I close my eyes.
"Sweetheart, I’ve been thinking about being inside you since I left you in bed this morning, so don’t tease me." As his fingers come to a stop, he slowly lowers his lips to mine. His tongue glides over me, and I surrender, opening up to him and letting him taste me.
"Pot meet kettle," I quip, and he laughs as he sits back up and continues to relax me.
His hands glide through my hair while mine gently caress my growing stomach. With my eyes shut tight, a wave of emotions washes over me, all leading back to him.
He's more than just my husband. He's my peace, my heart, my safe place, and my home.
