How could it not?
And then Drew produces a small box from his pocket. My heart races as he opens it, revealing a delicate gold necklace. From it hangs a tiny star pendant with a small diamond in the center.
“I know it might sound cheesy,” he says with a self-deprecating smile, “but, um…” He clears his throat. “Every time you look at this, or put it on, I want you to remember this night, these stars, the…” His voice cracks. “Baby. And how much I care about you.”
Tears gather in my eyes as I take the box from him with trembling fingers.
“Drew, I don’t know what to say,” I whisper.
He stands, coming around to my side of the table, standing behind me and reaching for the necklace with trembling hands. “You don’t have to say anything. Just know that I mean every word.”
At this moment, beneath the stars and surrounded by the soft glow of candlelight, Drew Colter—the boy of my dreams—fastens the gold chain as I lift my hair.
It hangs, resting at a spot on my neck where my pulse beats, and I touch it, knowing that I will probably never take it off.
“Tess Donahue?”
My pulse quickens. “Will you be my girlfriend?”
Oh my god, why am I so emotional! Seriously!
“Yes!”
Duh.
“I’ve literally been waiting for you to ask me that since I was eleven years old.”
The End…
is just the beginning.
