14Saxson“Married huh? You sure about this big bro?” I knew we were going to have this conversation.”
“Yes. I am sure.”
“I figured you would say that. I mean I know you like her and all and looking at her I can totally see why. Doesn’t mean you have to marry her.” I turn my head in his direction, as the red haze comes over my eyes.
“You will watch what you say about my wife. Do you understand? I will not say this again Ramone. I love you, little brother. But nothing will match that of how I love Lexi.” He walks backwards a bit holding his hands up in surrender.
“Whoa. Calm down. I just needed to be sure. No disrespect meant. Start over?” I nod my head as I take a few deep breaths. “You will see little brother. When you finally decide to take the woman meant to be yours everything else will cease to exist but her.” He shakes his head as he looks off into the horizon.
“Nah. That love shit is not for me. This life we live Sax, is not meant for women. The wrong enemy finds out there is someone in our lives, and they become a target to get to us. I don’t need that shit. You and I both know, someone takes what belongs to me and their whole family, their parents down to their newborn baby better hide. No. It’s better I stay single.” He says the last part a bit wistfully. Wishing I am sure that he didn’t already know who his ‘one’ was. I pat him on the back letting him know I hear him.
“Have you found Julissa?” My little sister is in for it when we get our hands on her.
“Sì. Papì found her. He won’t say what happened. Only that we will take care of it after your wedding. Mamì was crying so it can’t be anything good. That dumb fuck better hope dad saves his ass. I have been itching to shed some blood lately.” Crazy fuck.
“Listen. There will be no blood shed during my wedding. Got it?” He shrugs his shoulders at me.
“Whatever. What do you need me to do, since I am here?”
“We are taking the girls shopping for their dresses, so they can have them sent over to the villa in the morning. Our suits will be brought to us tonight during the dinner. What time is everyone getting here?”
“Well originally it was supposed to be tomorrow. But mama decided she wanted to have an engagement/meet the family dinner tonight so they should be here in a few hours. Yay!!!” He says sarcastically.
“Is Julio coming?” I always worry about him. My other little brother. The need to have him be as far removed from the family as possible for legal reasons, I sometimes worry as my dad does, that it will one day create a gulf between all of us.
“Yes. I talked with him this morning. He is coming in with mom and dad.”
“Really??”
“Yeah. Something about needing to talk to us. I don’t know. Something is definitely up with him. Guess we will find out when he gets here.”
I am about to respond when the girls come out of the house. Immediately my body becomes aware as the reason for the sir in my lungs comes into my orbit. I barely notice her friend other than to see that Lexi has put makeup on her and given her an outfit.
“You ready to go baby?” Lexi nods her head at me, but she is looking at my brother and I am not beyond admitting that it is making me itch. No other man should be in her purview but me. She walks up to me and wraps her arms around me, but her gaze hasn’t left her friend and Ramone. Something is up.
“Lex, what’s going on?” I whisper in her ear. I need to know if I should be kicking my brothers ass right now or not.
“Your brother is an ass. That’s what. But I got something for him.” The venom in her voice shouldn’t turn me on, but fuck if it doesn’t make me want to fuck her right here on the ground. She walks up to Lara and pulls her into the car. I quirk my eyebrow up at my brother, but he simply looks at me, emotionless, and slides into the front seat. This day keeps getting more and more interesting. He only acts like that when there is something he wants and can’t have, or he has to do something he doesn't want to do.
Once we are seated in the car, I notice the girls have their head together whispering and shit. Sometimes I forget how young she is. Lexi looks up at me and cocks her eyebrow in the rearview mirror. My hackles rise. She is up to something.
