“Right, you would be looking for Dom. It’s Thomas that needs the ride home.”

“Potato, Poe-taught-toe,” she mumbles and I laugh.

“Bitch, quit giving me trouble. I just called to tell you I won’t be by tonight after all.”

“It’s all cool. I guess since I don’t get to eye-fuck your brother—”

“God, that’s so gross. Can you not use the word fuck in any form or fashion when it comes to my brother?”

“That’s a physical impossibility,” she says, her voice serious. I roll my eyes, because when Keanna speaks you either go along or ignore her.

There is no in between.

“Whatever, call me tomorrow.”

“Will do. Later, girl.”

“Later,” I tell her and click my phone off, as I pull into the graveled parking area of my dad’s club. Growing up, this place was a second home to me. It still is for family barbeques and things, but for the most part, I don’t go around the club. I’m not stupid, I know what happens here, Mom too. They’ve been very open and I do have eyes. I also know my uncles and each of them love their wives as much as Dad does Mom. They keep their personal lives just that. Still, the unattached men and even some of the married ones that don’t have the same relationships with their old ladies as my family does, have club whores and it gets wild. I never enjoyed that part of the club life. It’s why I decided long ago never to date someone who was all about the club life. My family might not cheat on their old ladies, but I’ve seen enough cheating to know it happens and happens often in this world. That’s probably unfair, because it happens outside this world too, it’s just I see it more in the club. It’s almost the norm…

I pick up my phone and text Thomas.

“I’m out here, Doofus.”

“Be out in a second.”

I read his response and sigh. I’m always going to spend my life being at my brothers beck and call. They are determined to drive me insane…

It’s a good thing I love them.

There’s definitely a party going on tonight. I imagine it’s wilder inside, but it’s starting to spill over out here. There are bonfires burning in old oil drums, that are dispersed along the side of the building. Men are drinking and playing cards on the tables and all of them have at least one woman—most of the time more—on their laps.

“And what are you doing here, pipsqueak?”

“Hey, Uncle Dancer,” I laugh, jumping in surprise because he snuck up to my window and I didn’t even see him.

“You’re not supposed to be here. Your dad is going to cut off my balls and feed them to Leggo.”

“Leggo is too finicky to eat your balls,” I laugh. Leggo is a junkyard dog—meaning he has so many species in his pedigree you can’t tell what breed he is. He looks evil, but he’s always been a big puppy dog to me.

“You need to go, Kayden. You want to rebel, do it when your dad is here, or better yet, do it when Bull is on duty.”

“Relax, I’m just here to pick up Thomas. You know he doesn’t like this kind of thing.”

“Yeah, crowds can be hard to take.”

“You heading home to Aunt Carrie?”

“Yeah, had about all of this I can stand,” he says. “I don’t like being away from Carrie for too long. I tried to get Bull to handle the party tonight, but Skye has the graveyard shift this week at the hospital.”

“If you didn’t want a party, why have one? Aren’t you supposed to be in charge while Dad is away?” I laugh.

“Freak, that fuck-head, planned it. Then, the asshole had to head out of town and stick me with it. It was supposed to be a get together because some men from the Ohio chapter came in and there’s a nomad that Gunner sent this way in town.”

“Nomad?” I ask, trying to sound bored, my heart beating hard in my chest.

“Yeah, he’s been crashing at your mom’s club. Surprised you haven’t seen him while doing the books.”

“Nailer makes sure I only get in there when the place is dead,” I mutter. “You guys realize what a double standard it is that Thomas and Dom get to live here and party and I can’t even go inside the dang club,” I add, annoyed.

“Take it up with your dad. I’m not touching that,” he says, and honestly I knew that would be his answer.

“Whatever. Shouldn’t you introduce me to this nomad? So I know if he’s around the club when I’m there?”

“No need. Freak said the guy was planning on heading out at the end of the week.”

“He is?” I ask, hoping I’m keeping the pain that information causes out of my voice.

“Far as I know, of course with the way our new girls are hanging on him over there, he may change his mind,” Dancer laughs.
