“You’re not talking,” Dragon growls. “That pile of shit you have in your head in place of brains putting anything together yet?”

“Yeah. I know where I am,” I admit, my voice raw. “What fucking game are you playing? Let me out of these damn things,” I tell him, shaking my hands to make the links clink together. “And let’s have this out man to man.”

“Only problem with that, is we’d be short one fucking man,” Dragon growls and he kicks me in the side with his booted foot.

It definitely hits the mark, slamming into my ribs and hurting so fucking bad that it robs me of breath. I flinch, but I do my best not to curl in to the fucking fetal position like I want to.

“Go fuck yourself,” I tell him, my voice weak and sounding pathetic, even to my own ears.

“You left my daughter out here in her car alone, motherfucker. You left her cuffed to damn steering wheel in a tinker-toy car, with the fucking windows down. You left her alone and unprotected, and you want me to believe you care about her?”

“I kept my eye on her, she was fine. I wasn’t gone but a damn minute,” I growl, pissed off now by what he’s insinuating. Kayden is mine. I protect her and I sure as hell will keep a closer eye than he did on her. He left her all alone and didn’t even know I was sniffing around her. When Kayden and I have kids, you can sure as hell believe that shit won’t happen.

Dragon kicks me again, and this time Dancer does the same, and Dom and Thomas do too, and if I’m not mistaken they kick a lot fucking harder than the first two. I wheeze and cough, yell out—as much as I can—and pull myself up so I’m sitting. I’m not going to just lie here and become their damn punching bag.

Dragon, grabs me by my hair, yanking my head back and I go to fight him, but he pulls out a gun, pushing the end of the barrel hard against my temple. I try to look around, but the place is eerily quiet. There’s no one here.

How does that happen?

“You left her alone for seven minutes and forty-nine and a half seconds, motherfucker. It would just take me about three seconds to splatter your brains on this fucking ground. That’s it. You left my daughter alone for seven minutes and forty-nine and a half seconds. Do you know what could have happened to her in that time?”

So this is how it ends. He’s going to shoot me here and there’s not much I can do to stop it. I sure as hell refuse to beg him for my life.

“She was fine. I kept an eye on her.”

“You kept an eye on her,” he repeats. You kept an eye on her,” he says again, this time it’s almost as if he’s laughing at the words, but there’s no mistaking the fury on his face.

“Were you keeping an eye on her when she stretched and cried out in pain, all to reach her damn burn phone under the seat to call me and beg for your fucking life, Nomad?”

“I…”

Shit. I wasn’t.

I did keep looking at her through the window, but I had to pay for the gas and I took a quick piss, before I came back out to get her to do the same.

“You’re not so talkative now, are you, motherfucker? Now, I’ve decided to give you a quick lesson in life, because evidently, you’re too fucking stupid to have caught on sooner. You’re in the club life, by dipping your toes in the water, but you don’t live the life.”

“Bullshit,” I snarl.

Dragon ignores me, or at least for the most part he does. He’s crouched down now. Still holding me by my hair, but he’s letting the head of his gun move back and forth, grazing against my temple.

“As a nomad, you may have loyalty to certain brothers, but you don’t really have a home, do you? You haven’t pledged yourself to a club, you don’t have to worry about territories, you just go where you want and piss in the wind.”

I remain quiet. I can hear the contempt he has for my lifestyle and I could give two-shits about it. I’ve enjoyed how I lived my life. Not until I met Kayden, did I ever think I wanted anything else. Since being with her, I will admit, I’ve been thinking differently. I want to put down roots and have a home for our kids and I want to do that for me, but also for Kayden, because I know that’s the life she wants and I want to be the asshole who gives that to her. I don’t want to give another man the chance to give her happiness.
