“Oh no you don’t,” he growls. He pulls me back and slams the door shut. My body goes tight and I fight against his hold. “You and I are going to have this shit out, Kayden. I told you when you gave yourself to me that there was no going back and damn it, there’s not. You’re mine and there will be no walking away from me—from us.”

“Shouldn’t you open the door back? Aren’t you afraid your new best friend will be pissed you’re going against his rules?”

“Is that what has your panties in a wad, Baby Girl? That I haven’t killed your father? Did you want me to kill the motherfucker?” he growls.

I kick against him and he lets me go. I know that’s proof he’s still in bad shape, which just makes me madder.

“Don’t be disgusting!”

“Then, what in the fuck is your problem, Kayden? Jesus, I’m too fucking old for these games. Just tell me what in the hell is going on in your head.”

“You’re changing and I don’t like it.”

“Change is a fact of life, Kayden. It just happens. Maybe if you could tell me what in the hell I’ve done you dislike so fucking much…”

“You’re agreeing to everything my dad is saying! I mean, look at you. You’re wearing damn underwear, for Christ’s sake!”

“I’m wearing underwear because I’m in a clubhouse with a bunch of men and Twinkies. You’d rather I be lying in bed naked? Will that make you calm your ass down? Fine,” he growls, grabbing the waist band of his boxers and pushing them down, quickly—quicker than I thought he could have with his injuries—kicking them to the side and leaving him completely naked. His cock is semi-aroused, and bobbing out and damn it, I forgot how big he is, and how wide, and how beautiful, and how mouthwatering and… “My face is up here, Baby Girl,” he grumbles, still definitely annoyed and snapping me out of momentary thought derailment.

“Oh my God! Put some clothes on Chains!”

“Kayden, you just told me to take them off. I swear if you didn’t make me want to kiss you so much, I’d strangle you,” he grunts, not bothering to get dressed.

He flops back down on the bed and that’s when I notice a fine bead of sweat along his forehead. Guilt hits me, because he’s not doing as well as he would have me believe. It’s been two days since I finally got him back and I’ve been spending most of my time here at the club—although not the night time. My nights have been texting with Chains, but it all feels empty. I miss him when he is not around and this whole marriage thing is seriously stressing me out.

I walk over to the bed and grab the sheet and pull it up over his body. I talk a big game, but I don’t want to get Chains killed either. I’m also not real fired up to have my father walk in on me and Chains again either. That’s an experience that no one needs to relive, ever.

“I’m sorry,” I mutter, lying down on the bed beside him. “You’re not up to fighting and here I am driving you crazy.”

“You’re being a bitch, but fuck, I even kind of like that,” Chains grumbles pulling me closer, one hand going to cup my ass, as he kisses the top of my head.

“You’re so sweet,” I mumble against his chest, breathing him in and letting his heartbeat play in my ear, soothing me.

“Tell me what’s really got you pissed off, Baby Girl.”

“Dad’s forcing you to marry me. I don’t want that for you, Chains. Hell, I don’t want it for me. If I get married, I want it to be because the man I love loves me and wants to stand in front of a preacher and declare that love and pledge the rest of our lives together. Not because if he doesn’t, my dad will shoot his dick off.”

Chains turns on his side, moving my body with him, so I’m forced to do the same and look at him. He keeps his hand under my chin, his eyes pinning mine with his heated gaze.

“If you don’t get that I love you, Kayden, I’m not sure how to make it any clearer. Hell, do you think your father would have let me live, if he couldn’t tell how special you are to me?”

“Still, you don’t want ties and forever, Chains. Heck, that’s how you got your road name. I don’t want to force you into something you don’t want. Not this—especially not this.”

“Kayden, I thought you knew me. It felt like you knew me better than anyone ever has before. Do you really think I’d do anything that I didn’t want to do?”

“Well, I mean, I don’t know. I didn’t think so, but here you are agreeing to everything and maybe… I don’t know, Chains. I’m just…”
