“Is it a new video game?” Xander asks since that’s his newest thing now.

“Nope, not a video game.”

“Is it a new house?” Maddy asks.

I give her a confused look. “No, why would we get a new house?”

She shrugs. “I don’t know. Just seemed like a good idea.”

I laugh. “Well, I’ll tell your father that.”

They guess item after item the whole way home. Finally, we arrive home and they run into the house. They look in the living room before running into the kitchen. There is nothing in the kitchen either and they turn to face me, confused.

I laugh. “It’s outside.” I motion toward the back door.

They both take off in a spirit, leaving the door standing wide open as they run over to Liam who’s hanging a piñata up in a tree. “Who’s birthday is it?” Xander asks.

Liam laughs. “Nobody’s, and before you get excited, this doesn’t have candy in it.”

“Awe,” they both whine.

“Then what’s in it?” Xander asks.

“It’s a hint to what your surprise is. We just thought you’d have fun beating the crap out of this thing.”

Xander picks up the bat and he takes a few swings before passing the bat over to Maddy. They both land a few solid hits, but nothing is enough to bust it open. Finally, Liam gets up and lowers it just the tiniest bit and Xander swings hard. This time, the whole side of the piñata bursts and their surprise comes raining down.

Maddy gets excited and screams as she drops to the ground and grabs a few of the little plastic babies. “Babies! Babies!”

Xander turns and looks at us confused. “What’s the deal with all the babies? I don’t like baby dolls.”

We both laugh. “You and Maddy are going to be a big brother and sister soon,” Liam tells them.

He frowns as scratches his head. Then it clicks. “We’re going to have a baby? Like a real one that we can keep forever?”

I nod and Xander jumps up and down, cheering. “Please make it a boy, please make it a boy.”

Maddy gets up off the ground and she stomps her foot. “No! Girl!”

Liam and I both laugh. “It’ll be a surprise, but it doesn’t matter if it’s a boy or a girl because we’re going to love it just as much as we love the two of you,” I tell them.

Maddy shrugs and goes back to picking up the babies and Xander goes back to hitting the busted piñata with the bat.

“Well, that went pretty well,” Liam says, leaning in as he kisses me. “I love you, Sasha.”

“I love you too, Liam.” He pulls me closer and deepens our kiss. I get lost in him just like I always do. I feel so overwhelmingly happy that I think I just might cry. I never thought I’d end up married with children, and now I know just how lucky I am to have joined this family.Myfamily.
