“He can try,” Krew said with a cocky tone, “but it’s his own damn fault.”

I took a hesitant step back toward the hedge, toward the castle. “So we are truly going to do this? Are you sure you don’t want to just let me run now?”

He shook his head. “No. Father’s men aren’t that dense. They’re waiting inside for us. Come along now, darling.”

I squinted at him, though I wasn’t sure he could see it. “I take that back. Keir won’t kill you because I will do it first.”

“Wow,” Krew muttered. “First date and already death threats.” He held a hand out for me.

It was either stuck in a relationship I didn’t want with Keir or faking one with Krew to my freedom.

So I took his hand.

Just inside the door, where he was correct, one of his father’s guards stood waiting, Krew leaned in and brushed a kiss to my cheek. I fought off the urge to move away and allowed it.

Just before he leaned away, he whispered, “Welcome to the dark side, love.”
