“This isn’t Mexico,” I said. “The Jalisco don’t run these streets.”

He gestured assent and sipped his coffee. There was a sound on the stairs and we both looked over as Mona stepped down wearing a tiny pair of shorts, barely big enough to cover her big, beautiful ass, and a low-cut tight tank top that might’ve been two sizes too small. She frowned at Ambrose, blinked a couple times, then crossed her arms over her chest.

“Oh, hey,” she said. “I didn’t know you’d, uh, have company.”

Ambrose laughed and gave me a sly look. “This the girl, huh?”

“Yeah, this is her,” I said.

“Pretty,” he said. “Really pretty. Where the fuck did you find her?”

“She fell into my lap,” I said.

“I’m standing right here,” Mona said. “You know I can hear you, right?”

“Smart girl, too,” I said. “You should see her when she takes off her—”

“I swear to God, Vince, if you finish that sentence I’ll cut off your dick.”

Ambrose threw back his head and laughed then grinned huge at me. “I like her,” he said.

“Me too,” I said.

She glared at us then shook her head. “What’s going on?” she asked.

“Mona, this is Ambrose,” I said. “He’s my top lieutenant from New York.”

“Oh,” she said. “Hi, uh, nice to meet you.”

“You too,” he said.

“Mona’s been staying with me,” I said to him. “She’ll be coming to the meeting.”

He turned his lips down at that and gave me a look. “You sure about that? You know how Diego can be around new people.”

“He’ll like her,” I said. “She’ll wear something slutty.”

“Hey,” Mona said. “Asshole.”

“It’ll help though,” Ambrose said, stroking his chin. He looked back at her. “No offense, but if you wore something slutty, I’m sure Diego would be too busy looking at your tits to care about anything else.”

“You can’t just say ‘no offense,’ then say whatever you want,” Mona said.

I snorted and stood up. “Seriously though,” I said. “She’s coming, so get used to the idea.”

“Fine,” Ambrose said. “I should call him up. Where do we want to meet?”

“Somewhere public,” I said. “There’s a park not too far from here. Clark Park. Tell him to meet us there.”

I caught Mona stiffen at the name of the park out of the corner of my eye, but ignored her.

“Yeah okay,” Ambrose said and pushed himself from the table. He walked past me and into the kitchen, already dialing a number on his burner phone.

I got up and walked over to Mona. She gave me an annoyed look and didn’t uncross her arms.

“What’s going on?” she asked.

“My New York connection is here,” I said. “Ambrose is brokering the meeting.”

“Right,” she said, taking a deep breath. “I guess we couldn’t just stay inside forever.”

“I wish we could,” I said and reached out to uncross her arms. She let me with a little reluctance. “But unfortunately, the real world beckons.”

She looked away, down at the floor. “I don’t want the real world,” she said. “In the real world, I’m a journalist and you’re a mobster.”

“And your subject,” I said. “Pretty sure letting me fuck you raw for the last two days isn’t exactly common journalistic practice.”

She shot me a look then her face softened. “I know,” she said. “I’m trying to negotiate with myself here, you know what I mean?”

“I think so,” I said. “You’re trying to find that line.”

“Right,” she said, nodding in quick jabs of her head. “Exactly. I’m trying to find that line. On the one side, I’m the old Mona, you know, the journalist and all that. And on the other…”

“You’re the Mona that sweats as she rides my thick cock and moans as she swallows my cum.”

She blushed a little. “Yeah. Exactly.”

“Don’t worry about it too much,” I said. “You can be both, if you want.”

“I’m not sure it works that way.”

I tilted my head and touched her cheek. She nuzzled against my palm and closed her eyes.

“Mona, it works however the fuck we want it to work,” I said.

“All right,” Ambrose said from the kitchen. I dropped my hand from Mona’s cheek and turned as Ambrose held up his phone, shaking it toward us. “Just talked to Diego.”

“And?” I asked.

Mona took a few steps away from me, pacing toward the couch and back.

“He’ll meet,” Ambrose said. “Clark Park in an hour. He’s coming alone, and he’s not happy that you’re bringing a girl.”

“But he’s still coming,” I said.

“Yeah, looks like it.” Ambrose put his phone into his pocket. “You sure about this, boss?”

I looked at Mona for a long moment, watched her pace until she caught me staring and stopped. She uncrossed her arms and stretched, and I took a second to admire her body.

“I’m sure,” I said. “Now, who wants some food?”

I walked to the kitchen, my hands trembling with anticipation.* * *I pulled the SUV over across the street from the park’s entrance and killed the engine. Ambrose jumped out and stretched, but Mona lingered in the back seat for a second.
